Probably did make a difference back then when you had to balance your own check book. With instant access to the information and no need to calculate the balance, you'd probably be fine with a joint account now.

We have multiple joint accounts and use them for different purposes.

Honestly, that's exactly what started it. I was not very good about giving her my receipts, so she told me to give this a try. It worked.
