Free weekend between CT and DC - What to do?

I have a business meeting in Hartford, CT on a Thursday later this month and then meetings in DC and VA the following Mon and Tues.
Rather than fly home and then back I am going to rent a car and drive from CT to DC.
That leaves me with a Friday, Saturday, Sunday in the corridor between CT and VA. Anyone have a good suggestion for someplace to stop and do something?
Not really interested in the regular DC sightseeing stuff. I have done that multiple times.

A little out of the way but not by much - go to Sperryville and hang out in the Virginia wine country, do some hiking at Shenandoah, and if you want to Treat Yoself have dinner at The Inn at Little Washington.

I did this recently. We stayed a couple days at Rehobeth beach (which is nice if unremarkable) just to cross Delaware off the list, then a quick pit stop to get crabs outside of Annapolis before hitting up Charlottesville. It may be too out of the way, but another option is to seek out the more rustic parts of the Delmarva peninsula and go to the barrier islands with the wild horses.

- Cape May New Jersey, after a night or 2 you can take the ferry to Lewes, DL (near Rehoboth Beach) and then go to DC or down to Ocean City, MD and then Chincoteague, VA to see the wild horses.
- St. Michaels, Maryland; it's on the MD eastern shore. There is a small but interesting Chesapeake Bay fishing museum there.
- Lancaster, PA to Somerset, PA (which is almost to Pittsburgh) - there are several National Monuments nearby that are interesting: Flight 93 Memorial, Johnstown Flood, Allegheny Portage Railroad, Fort Necessity Nat Battlefield, and Fallingwater, not a Nat site but a house built by Frank L. Wright. Go by Harpers Ferry on your way to DC.

I-95 is terrible in that stretch, I’d take the train and just stop in big cities. See if baseball teams are in town. If you want to drive, you can skirt around backroads through Pennsylvania to avoid 95. I lived in DC and had to spend 2 months in Norwalk, CT one time. Some things of the top of my head, pizza in new haven, you could hit up Gettysburg. You could really cross over NY to cooperstown as well, visit some lakes in upstate NY. Harpers ferry, WV is a nice stop. You could do some hiking on app trail. You could go to eastern shore beaches in Delaware. Just depends what you are into.
