Going to be a full day of Jerry Band in his honor, beginning with 3.1.80 - their greatest show IMO.

sadly, in just 8 days we'll be remembering and honoring his death on 8/9/95, 27 years ago. So fortunate to have seen Jerry play live.

The Capitol back then was pretty beat. The city of Passaic was also beat. Crowd was always rough. But damn they played well there. They always broadcast the band on big screens in bw on either side of the stage. Good times...
Happy Birthday Jerry!

The GOAT.
I jammed out to 10/9/89 Dark Star on my way home today to celebrate his birthday.

Thanks for this thread. No words can describe what his music did and continues to do for me. The best.

Surprised he made it to 1995. Great stuff though.

I saw 204 GD shows with Jerry. My last was Highgate 94. The show was bad. Jerry looked bad and played pretty poorly, lost sometimes. When I turned to leave during the encore, I took a good long look at Jerry. It was the last time I saw him.
I figured he would clean up and it would be similar to 87 again but it wasn't meant to be. Your take isn't surprising to me. The later years were pretty bad.

I don't really listen to anything post-Brent, I feel like that's a line of demarcation.

There are definitely some gems in the later years, but overall, I rarely listen to anything after the mid-80's. Some of the 90's shows are borderline unlistenable, but you can't let that take away from the rest of the catalog.
My wife and I actually met on a random Monday night at a bar in Atlanta. There was a Dead cover band playing on 8/9 for Jerry's death day. We met and ended up getting married two years later on the same day.
