FAIL... he clearly meant the WUD which was TORN DOWN and REPLACED (w/ club seats & new press box, AND NO "WELCOME TO DEATH VALLEY sign) after the EUD was complete

My seven year old is going to be pissed
When it comes to LSU's campus, I'm not sure why anyone should care whether 7-year-olds have fun. It's a University where grownups go to learn. If you bring your kids, maybe you should bring something to entertain your kids.
you're awesome.

This is debatable...at least on here.
If a 7 year old can't play on a mound of dirt, then an 18 year-old can't scream "frick you" and claim youthful indescretion.

quote:Though bnap was likely sarcastic in his assessment of me, it's awesome because telling kids that the mounds aren't a toy is awesome. It's not theirs, it's not a swingset, and it's on the NRHP. If kids can't have fun without the mounds, they've got this place called "at home" that should be fine and fun for everybody. It isn't LSU's job to provide a jungle gym for the kids.
how is that awesome?
The paragraph above was awesome.

xiv, you just make me shake my head. see? They're kids, not earth movers. The mounds have stood the test of time and a few kids enjoying a tailgate aren't going to be a detriment. Off season seeding goes a long way.

LSU is doing what's best for LSU. That is awesome. Stop shaking your head; you'll get whiplash.

i know that tree by the indian mounds is split in half and is being held together by ropes
Now there's your reason, they've been working on that crap all week, so probably going to get rid of the tree today/tomorrow, ready to go for Saturday. Last thing you need is a bit wind to screw up the already screwed tree and hurt a lil kid

There are no dead Indians buried at the Indian mounds. They were built for religious puropses, not as a burial ground. They may contain some sea shells, pottery and perhaps some animal bone. Nothing else.

The Indian Mounds like the South Endzone are sacred grounds!

Squatting dog, Sitting duck, Big Bear, Little Bear and Franklin are turning over in their grave...I mean mound because this is even an issue...

Not sure what the big deal is about respecting the dead.
I frequently bring my ripper kids to the local cemetery to use the headstones as launch ramps to practice their tweaks and ollies. So what's the big deal with sledding on cardboard over some dirt piles?

1) Let me say that as a kid I really enjoyed playing on the mounds.
2) Nobody ever told me they were graves. I probably wouldn't have played on them if somebody told me that.
3) I am of the opinion that nobody should be on the mounds anyways. Those are burial mounds.
On a side note....did ya'll realize that the Mississippians sometimes buried a nobleman's entourage along with him when he died? I'm pretty sure those mounds = 1 for the nobleman, and 1 for his wife, kids, and servants. fricked up, huh?

I'm not too sure this is accurate. Most of the rounded mounds were burial mounds. The flattened mounds were temple mounts.

Not so fast...
quote:
Built more than 5,000 years ago by Native Americans, the mounds at LSU were part of a much larger trend. Native Americans built large mounds in the eastern part of North America for many reasons. Archaeologists think Native American mounds served as ceremonial and social centers. To date, archaeologists do not know the exact purpose the LSU Indian Mounds, but the structures do not appear to have been burial places, temples or houses. Researchers believe the mounds may have been symbols of group identity where peoples living in scattered bands congregated from time to time for religious and ceremonial purposes, and to feast, dance, exchange information, and select mates.
