The Sandman-Aug. 5

I've only seen a clip or two of what's to come but it looks good and I'm excited about it. Hopefully Netflix won't cancel this one after a season or two.

quote:

The Sandman is a saga that transcends space and time, taking us beyond Earth to mythical lands and strange realms. It’s packed with iconic figures — both historical and legendary — that you might find familiar. For instance, you’ll find William Shakespeare, Thor, Orpheus, and so many others show up. And then, given its place in the DC universe, expect sporadic appearances from DC canon, including Martian Manhunter and John Constantine. It also brings in some lesser-known DC characters, from Element Girl to Hector Hall.

All 10 volumes of the comic follow its titular character Dream of the Endless, also known as Morpheus, Kai’ckul, Sandman, and countless other names. His name — so too his appearance — changes depending on who it is that sees him. We join him on his journey, watching him play out his duties as the Ruler of Dreams, and watch as his past mistakes come back to haunt him.

Woke garbage.
Had potential to be great- now I hope it doesn't get greenlit for Season 2.

Neil Gaiman has said it's always been woke. Just woke before it was a thing. Lucifer being a girl and death being black isn't that big of a deal imo. Having Desire as non binary is pretty stupid. I think replacing John Constantine with his female ancestor is a bad idea too.

Neil Gaiman is in full support of everything they did though. This story is insanely weird and crazy, the show looks like it'll be the same, but it isn't going to be for everybody that's for sure.

What is so Woke about it? I've only seen this one preview along with one other short clip but don't really know much else. I didn't see anything very "woke" from the trailer unless I'm missing something?

ETA: Nvm, iwyLSUiwy filled me in with his post

After watching the sneak peak, I said to my wife, "Strange that they made Lucifer female." She smirked evilly and said, "Is it really so strange?"

Desire is pretty androgynous in the Comics

I don’t get how people can complain about this show being too woke when it was always pretty fricking woke.

There was a trans character years before anyone was really talking about them. Death was always female. Things like that.

Also, Constantine may be a rights issue. There was an article not too far back about Keanu wanting to do a sequel and they just couldn’t get the rights and get it all set up because it’s all part of DCU.

Neil was involved in every aspect of this show. it's very much his show.

I love fans hating on the creator's own decisions on his own story.

He’s also basically said he’s spend year fighting off shitty movie versions of the comics.

He clearly has a vision. I also Really like the actress who plays death.

What he means and is too chicken shite to say is he has a problem with any minority or non-male casting in place of what were originally ambiguous and in some cases androgynous characters to begin with. As said by the creator who himself has also said he’s excited for the cast they have.

I find it funny that we always get these complaints about “white men are the devil!” on here, and those same people are still complaining now when a white woman is literally playing Lucifer.

If you follow Gaiman at all, this isn’t anything new. He also fully supports and is fully involved in this project.

Quite simply, don’t watch. You’re not going to be happy.

I guess it was more that it was stupid making sure a non binary actor played desire. But I guess technically they could could understand the role better than anybody.

I wasn't complaining. I said Lucifer and Death didn't bother me and those are the two biggest issue people are taking. But that doesn't mean there can't be things I disagree with. I agree that it was woke before there even was woke.

Was this in regards to me?

If you're on this board enough you'll know that I've never the one bitching about stuff being woke you dumb frick and typically argue against it. Go look at the Rings of Power threads (except this new one, I'm done). Or hell even the other part of my first post.

If that wasn't directed towards me, ignore what I just said and

I'm still going to give it a watch. The 'woke' things that this board complains about really doesn't bother me (I noticed a mountain of complaining in the Obi Wan threads). If the show is bad I won't watch it....but I'm not ganna have a melt about an actor playing Lucifer being a women.

Not you at all, this was to another poster that frequently complains about “woke” with no leg to stand on in this case.

All good, glad to see someone else arguing against this small minded thinking in literally every post and every situation. As if nuance doesn’t exist.

You would think rather than just complain constantly about such insignificant "issues" they would just, not watch it. If a white women playing Lucifer or a black female Inquisitor triggers you that badly to where the whole show is "woke garbage"..maybe try joining a crochet club

It’s such a novel concept, right? I very easily just don’t watch things I don’t like. And then never give it a second thought. Truly groundbreaking

“Woke” had a completely different meaning before the current “stupid woke” the leftists are so proud of.

Sandman was “woke” in the un-raped sense of the word.

Woke used to mean being awake to the bullshite lies of the democrats, BLM, ANTIFA and other such assholes. Then some bitch went on TV and said woke should be something else…essentially BELIEVING the lies and bullshite of named septic entities. It caught on because of the corrupt media outlets. I remember this because that count was on a couple of talk shows pushing her shite.
Fits right in with the left’s tactic of lying and saying the opposite of what is happening, and accusing others of what they themselves are doing.
We all know leftists are intent on bringing down the streaming services if they don’t pander to the LBFAGQT queerdos. They’ll be gone when their stupid woke bullshite is rejected.

The Sandman stories had gays in the stories. But it was not the “suck my dick and learn to enjoy it” type of presentation like they have in so much stuff today…their presence was part of the story, and not “learn to love and be queer, dammit” that we are incessantly besieged with.

There is also plenty of drama, gore, suspense, blood, horror, terror, and whimsy present.

Looks more than likely that it will be cancelled tomorrow.

So- haha.

As to the person that said i'm chicken-shite or whatever: GFY

Yes- the casting sucks. I loved the comics as a kid, and was well aware of the gay/trans storylines. Didn't bother me then. It's not what bothers me now. It's just blah. It had potential, but they were too interested in stunt casting to get a buzz about it than actual storylines

Matthew is terrible. Patton Oswaldt is so bad, it takes me out of the story. His pep talk mid-duel to Morpheus was cringeworthy. Lucifer was horribly miscast and she had NONE of the dry wit or indifference that defined the character. Rose and Lyta Hall are TERRIBLE actors. The guy playing dream is a whiny little candy. Despair is wearing clothes. LOL

It's all so watered down, it's like an adaption for the CW network. The rape of Calliope was only implied off-screen after the author gave her gifts, etc.

This might have worked much better if adapted on HBO.
