Nutsedge in Liriope

I have nutsedge in my Liriope 'monkey grass'. Pulling the nutsedge just causes it to spread more unfortunately. So I come to the experts on the HG board for advice on how to get rid of this nutsedge. Is there any herbicide that will kill the nutsedge but not kill the Liriope???

Interested in the response. I have the exact same problem in mondo grass. Tempted to just spray Sedgehammer and let it roll.

Pretty sure halosulfuron (Sedgehammer) can be safety used on liriope - I sprayed some on nutsedge and kyllinga growing in liriope a couple days ago - done so in the past without issue.

when the time is right, can pre-emergent (Prodiamine) be sprayed onto liriope to help with weeds...in addition to nutsedge, I have bad chamberbitter and betony infestations in my liriope borders...hoping a pre-em would help knock some of it back

Yeah, certainty is the go to product for nutsedge in liriope and mondo grass.

I just found this? LINK Thoughts?
The label on Sedgehammer is not detailed specific on landscape use but I based my use of halosulfuron on information in this report, Table 5, plus recommendations at the end of the report, p 38, for label change to include liriope
LINK. But I’ll know for sure in another week or so if I caused any damage to lrirope and mondo grass with Sedgehammer. But pretty sure I’ve used it before on a couple occasions in the past without issue. Liriope and mondo grass are pretty difficult plants to damage.
But that said, the “Image Kills Nutsedge” recommended in your “DoMyOwn” link is in my experience is pretty effective on controlling nutsedge - I’ve only used it the lawn, and not landscape beds. It’s readily available, even at the big box stores, not particularly expensive as I recall, so you might want go with that product as it’s labeled for application to liriope.

Unfortunately prodamine wont help in controlling the nutsedge and betony, and not likely the chamberbitter. But will help with many other annual weeds in landscape beds.
Looks Isoxaben pre-emergent (Snapshot, Gallery) can help with the chamberbitter. LINK.
I’m fortunate not to have betony as I understand it can be a real issue to control. It is a winter perennial and pre-emergent herbicides don’t provide effective control on perennial weeds.
