The PT-305 boat rolls along the streets of New Orleans as it returns home to The National WWII Museum Campus Saturday, July 9, 2022. Obtained by the Museum in 2007, PT-305 was originally housed in the Kushner Restoration Pavilion while volunteers generously dedicated more than 120,000 hours over 10 years to complete her restoration. In March 2017, the iconic vessel became the world’s only fully restored combat-veteran PT boat in operation, offering rides and tours on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain, where she was originally tested by Higgins Industries. During the earliest months of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, the Museum made the difficult decision to move PT-305 to storage while developing plans to make her more accessible to wider audiences by bringing her back to the main Museum campus.

The OT should sponsor it and call it PT 350.

I had the privelege to ride it in the Lake before they removed it from the water. It was an amazing experience
After we docked, you get to ask questions to the crew. They said that they were having issues with the watertight integrity of the hull, and the bilge pump was running often. The Captain wanted them to coat the inside of the hull with fiberglass or a modern day waterproofing during the restoration, but it was decided they wanted to maintain the original features of the boat. I would guess that issue was a major reason why they stopped the tours.
It is pretty cool how that boat did all those tours.

The National WWII Museum in New Orleans is one of the best museums in the entire world.

I hear the new Higgins Hotel is very nice and there is a rooftop bar. Haven't checked it out yet but looking forward to it.

It’s a great museum,I’ve been 3 times and would very much like to go back.
But - the risks of getting shot, robbed, carjacked or more realistically getting my vehicle broken into keep me from going back to NO.
It’s a shame,I used to like going to NO every year or 2 for a few days.

Better lock it up good before some yutes steal a catalytic converter.

The 4 blocks of the WWII Museum campus seem to be "safe" compared to one more block in any direction. They have a nice parking garage and the Higgins hotel is awesome.

I have stock GMC Sierra and my antenna scraped the ceiling on every floor of that parking garage. It's the lowest "modern" parking garage I have ever been in.
That being said, I think the museum area itself is fairly safe and the only museum that had better displays was the Imperial War Museum in London.

Surprised some of the local residents didn't attempt to steal it.

I think covid killed all them. Haven't seen one since March 2020

There are parts of New Orleans that are somewhat safe
The area by the WW2 museum is not one of them.
