As for Jaxson, he'd need to do 2 things to make it past the trade deadline. Play center effectively, but also be limited enough that there's no market for him next summer and his best deal looks like a Josh Hart contract if not cheaper.

I still don't understand the big downside of keeping him. If Jaxson plays great, but it's clear that his market is above what we are going to be able to afford, then we can still work a sign-and-trade deal and get something for him then.

Unless you get good value in return it makes no sense to trade JAX to open a roster spot. We all need to get it our heads that Zion, Larry, and Val will miss games. So it's nice to have a 7ft guy who can run jump shoot a high percentage from the field and free throw line for the games those players miss. JAX is perfect for the long regular season same for Billy.

I just don't understand the point of where not going to resign him so we must trade him now. We're not going to get much of anything for a trade with JAX might as well use him in the regular season to save some minutes for our key guys. Then at the end of the season he walks away for nothing in return so be it.

I don't think you do have to trade him now. But I have very little faith he'll fix his bad habits like not boxing out, so if you trade him this summer I won't think it's a mistake.

Young players on rookie deals are like new cars… the value you get for them decreases the second you draft them unless they become superstars.

Value we get now, while he has a cost controlled season left and would convey RFA rights / Bird rights, is more than his value at the deadline or his value next offseason barring a massive spike in value due to his play.

If we don’t see him making the kind of step up he needs to in order to get a new contract from us, we need to get value now rather than get lowballed at the deadline or play chicken on an RFA tender.
