I received a job offer in Hillsboro, TX and I'm looking at two areas in particular to live in: Waxahachie and Burleson.

A little information: my daughter is blind and will need to go to a district with a good vision department. We looked into Mansfield, Midlothian, and Joshua already based on good reviews from others, but we felt more comfortable with Waxahachie and Burleson and the way their departments are set up currently.

We're moving from Baton Rouge and we don't know anyone in either of these two districts, so any advice on these areas would be appreciated.

Waxahachie is a nice little town less than an hour from Dallas.

It's small, but from what I can tell has everything you need. I would think you'll do good on real estate there in 10 years or so as the metroplex continues to grow.

Waxahachie is a little redneck.....but it's still a pretty good place to live. Some real deal cowboys live there. I have a lot of friends from Waxahachie. Some of them are bull riders and calf ropers. The schools are decent. Kinda has that Mississippi feel about it. Small town where everybody knows everybody.

We spoke with someone who runs the vision department at Joshua and she was awesome, but she's retiring soon and we wanted someone who would be in there for a while. Loved what we heard from her though.

She's 3. She would be eligible to start the pre-k curriculum immediately. They allow the special education kids to start at 3 instead of 4, which is great.

I don't have anything specific, but just an idea of whether or not they're both good places to live or not and if there are any areas to avoid inside those districts would be good to know. Thank you!

they're both more conservative, suburban/rural type schools.

there are good things about that, but the special education your daughter might need, could possibly be an issue as well. i'll assume you've researched that well.

Waxahachie is going to be closer to Hillsboro and i prefer most of that area than to the western part, but i feel like I35E is always under construction and I35W is smooth sailing.

i don't know if you looked at Waco area schools in this department either. I wouldn't do Waco ISD, but Midway ISD is pretty well regarded, but you'd be dealing with I35 nightmares until TXDoT pulls their head out of their rectum and finishes it.

Also most of the white people that live in Waxahachie are obsessed with rodeo and work for the storm chaser roofing mafia. A lot of of those insurance claim chasers are based in Waxahachie.

We started looking originally in the Frisco area, but I unexpectedly received great job offer in Hillsboro and we started quickly researching districts within commuting range.

We did look at Midway ISD, but we wanted to be close to the Metroplex to allow our daughter to be involved with a larger blind community. They have blind sports leagues and other clubs in Dallas that we're hopeful to get her involved in as she grows. Waxahachie is only about 30-35 minutes away. Burleson is a little further, but still not terrible.

The Waxahachie Medieval Festival is pretty crazy. They have a little village outside of town built for it.

Waxahachie is a great town, and the only one IIRC in the Metroplex with an HEB. Great small town feel, but rapidly growing and will probably become the McKinney South of the Metroplex.

Lots of places to fish/hunt if that's your thing. Bardwell is corps property, so you can public land hunt with only your license. People are nice and friendly.

I don't really know much about the schools, but if I were to make an educated guess based on everything else, I'd wager it's good. The town is run and planned well.

Awesome, thank you for that info. We spoke with a parent who has a blind child who attends elementary school in Waxahachie ISD and she said good things.

She also said that there are plans to develop the area in the same mold of Frisco/McKinney to the north of Dallas. Not sure if true, but that's what I was told.

I have been in Burleson for 12 years now and have 2 sons go thru the school system here. I can't speak for the special needs programs, but the schools are all very good here.

I am originally from Carencro, but we have enjoyed living here. This area is still somewhat rural, but very easy access to Fort Worth. Burleson has everything you can want in regards to restaurants and shopping.

Only concern is lots of growth in the last few years. There are new apartments and houses going up everywhere.

If you are commuting to Hillsboro, you will also be on the opposite side of the rush hour traffic. So should have easy drive in morning and evening.

Be careful not to wind up in the Crowley school district.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I've lived in Waxahachie for 12 years. Was a nice little town when I first moved here, but it is growing fast. I didn't send any kids through the school system, but people seem happy with it. They just built a new high school. Dallas is about 30 mins away and Fort Worth is about 45 mins. I work in Arlington and it takes about 30 mins to get to work, Mrs Xer works in Mansfield and it takes her about the same
