How many of you baws have ever ridden behind or seen a working steam locomotive?

Up in PA this weekend and had the privilege to ride behind the newly restored Reading 2102. Great experience and a nice scenic ride to Jim Thorpe, PA, which is a cool spot in the Poconos. Some of the weirdo railfans are annoying, but everything else has been great.
Steam locomotives are some of the most fascinating and beautiful machines ever built. If you ever have the chance to see or ride behind one I highly encourage it.

Yep...Huckleberry Railroad (near Flint, MI) during the Christmas season for most of my years growing up.

Disney sucks, but a cool thing about the parks is that they have legit steam locomotives. And they're pretty cool.

There is a nice narrow gauge steam train in Durango, Colorado that goes to Silverton and back.

Have been in the engineer's seat of both of these.
Being an engineer has it's perks now and then.

White Pass and Yukon
They have a steam engine (narrow gauge) that runs between the Port of Skagway and Fraser BC

I’ll give you another reason to hate Disney. The trains have been out of commission since 2018 and there is still no announcement of when it will open back up. They did a TON of refurbishments, though, so maybe it’ll be even better.

There are folks like me who appreciate the history railroading and unique equipment as well as scenic routes.
Then there are kids on the spectrum who go ape shite over a heritage unit and absolutely have to film it and/or grab 100’s of pictures, in the process blocking traffic and/or putting themselves at risk of being hit on the mainline.

Durango to Silverton Colorado is a spectacular ride with enough curves you can see the front of the train (and they do have a water stop to refill the engine reservoir.)
