Jimi may be bigger today than back then. The industry is starved for creativity and talent. Jimi wrote, recorded, and released Are You Experienced in 6 months. That is arguably the most complete debut album of all time. His playing was incredibly interesting and different. I can't imagine him not being successful in any era.

What most people don't want to admit is that the talent pool is much deeper today. What set Jimi apart is that he was the revolutionary one. He got there first. Same with EVH. He did things that many bedroom guitarists can replicate today...but he did it first and that's what made him great. A quick scroll through instagram or youtube and there are thousands of guitarists that have equal or better chops than Jimi. But Jimi did it first, and that deserves credit.

No it isn't. They would rather pump a shite load of money and marketing into someone like Miley Cyrus than sign an actual talent.

If the music labels were so starved for talent then the music of today wouldn't sound so bad. They want the type of music that will cater to all demographics and not just some.

Thats what happens when record companies post-napster realize its easier to push 1 easily manipulated ego maniac then having to deal with 4 or 6 separate musicians with their own lawyers.

Also the music is easier and cheaper to produce, instead of creating a unique prodution, no more tape, no more studio musicians for the most part..its also easier to sample existing art from the past and give a percentage of whatever royalties. This is accepted in today's society. Many movies and shows are nostalgia driven, remakes, reboots, etc..its like creativity stopped when everyone got a platform, and didn't have to earn it.

Its just how it is, and its not going to change anytime soon
