Saints need to pursue Cowher and NOW

Payton is a gimmick of a HC. His plays are a gimmick. He's a gimmick.
This team needs to go out and get Bill Cowher. You want to see real defense and consistency week in and week out, Cowher's the man.

Cowher would be a nice hire

does he only run the 3-4

So let's fire Payton 3 months after his extension and eat that $12 million. Then we'll hire Cowher at $6 million per season and next offseason ask Jindal for a new long term deal with the state.
That would go over REAL well with the taxpayers.

Since when has the Gubment cared about taxpayers?

I would like him as a D-coordinator. no doubt. I still have faith in Payton. And then the fact that we just gave him a new contract doesnt really help if you are on the 'fire sean payton' bandwagon now...

i'd like to keep Payton, get a new DC.

but so would a Super Bowl.

Cowher would never last in NO. It took him 13 years to win a Super Bowl and that was with total commitment from the orginization. araby would already be calling for his head after two years.
BTW, it didn't work out that well when we hired a previous Super Bowl winning coach.

You have key players out due to injuries, what do you expect.

Good play calling
Good clock management
Sensible handling of the roster
I expect these things from a coach.

Man, you people have no clue what you are talking about. There is no way in hell Cowher would ever coach the Saints... and why would we want him to? We have Payton. I know at times he makes some bone headed calls, but overall he has turned this Saints team around. We were 3-13 the year before he got here.
Once we get Bush, Colston, Shockey, and Patten back 100%, this team will be just fine. Our defense has started to make a name for themselves, and I am going to let this last game slide... the offense produced 7 points... so I am not going to get pissed at a defense who had to come on the field over and over again and try to stop the other team so that the offense could catch up.
I don't know if you ever heard of a guy named Bill Belichick, who was run out of Cleveland after sub par years... now he is argueably one of the best coaches in NFL history.
It has been 2 years and 7 games into the Payton era, for God's sake... give the man a chance to prove he can get the Saints over that hump no one else could.

You might be giving up on Payton a little too early. If they were winning you would have made this post! I like the sig pic.... Who is she?

i predict that we'll never get a full season our of bush, shockey, colston....too injury prone....

First let me say, there is no way the Saints are getting rid of Payton after just giving him that extension. The extension was premature and a huge mistake. I believe Cowher will be heading to Dallas following the end of this season.
Anyway, I wanted to disagree with the post quoted above. While it is true that the Saints were coming off a 3-13 season, that was the Hurricane Katrina season, and you couldn't have expected them to be much better, regardless of the coach. Haslett had this team consistently around the 7-9 to 9-7 mark, which is where I think they are right now under Payton. I see little difference. There are still boneheaded coaching calls. There are still weird personnel moves. There are still players that, despite how bad they suck, can do no wrong and get to stay on the team. I think we are right where we were with Haslett, a stubborn coach who refuses to learn from his mistakes and adapt his strategy to win games.
