If You Don’t Have Kauai On Your Travel Bucket List, You Need To!

Just got back from a trip to Oahu, Big Island and Kauai. Did Oahu, Maui and Kauai 10 years ago. If you island hop, you definitely want to save Kauai for last. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It is the most diverse and beautiful place I’ve ever seen.

I went to Kauai about a month ago and it was fantastic. No place like it, not even in Hawaii

I really liked the gay club scene in Waikiki. A regular visitor to the island named Richard Heart bought us drinks all night. Had a blast my whole time there.

For those that are able, I highly recommend doing the research and hiking the Kalalau Trail. I think my review from last year is in the Gumbo list

The Big Island used to be my favorite, but went to Kauai a few years ago and it's now my favorite. Really liked the city of Hanalei

We'd been years ago. We'd stayed on Shipwreck Beach.
So much to do. Molokai was one our other favorites along with Maui.

So you spend all that money to go some place as beautiful as Hawaii and that's what stands out?

Went to Maui over Christmas break. The people acted like you would get scalped on sight if you touched foot on Molokai. I'm guessing a scare tactic to keep the idiots off?

I went in 2004 and the ex and I stayed in Dick Brewer's guest house. It was kind of a random booking through VRBO (AirBnB didn't exist yet). His shop on his property was on the floor below the guest house. He and his wife were very nice and I tried not to ask too many novice questions. There were lots of famous surfers that signed his guest book. It was a neat experience and Kauai is on my list to return.

Just got back from a trip to Oahu and Kauai. Both Islands were awesome. I only have 4 nights and 3 full days on Kauai unfortunately, so it was rushed, but it was amazing. Hanalei was probably my favorite beach. The beach itself is beautiful and is perfectly shaped to have consistent waves.
I went to Poipu beach on the south Coast and it was just too crowded and the waves were erratic.
I was surprised that things didn't seem to be very busy or crowded almost anywhere we went. It wasn't desolate or anything...I just expected to have to deal with crowds. It seems the winter season is more busy.
The best food that I had on either island was found at a little small place in Hanalei called Wake Up Delicious. I had the Kaluia Pork and Garlic Shrimp with Kimchi. Everything was excellent. The shrimp were the best I had on either island.

Did you check out Lanikai beach on Oahu? It's my favorite Hawaiian beach that I've visited. I must admit though, I've only spent 3 days on Kauai and those were spent hiking, rather than beaching.

We were staying on Kailuah Beach right next to it so we mostly hung out on that beach, which was very nice. We went over to near Lanikai to get kayaks and paddled out to the flat island out there across from Lanikai.
We also snorkeled at Turtle Bay, which was awesome as it had a nice reef with plenty of fish to look at. There was no charge to use the beach there, which seemed to be part of the resort.

LOL! Yep. Maybe urban legend from my tee shot.
My wife and I vacationed at the Sheraton Molokai in the late 80's. Played golf on their beautiful course. Was looking for it today. Turns out, it's now abandoned!
Looked it up. There is another one there: Hotel Molokai. Molokai has one active hotel – the Polynesian-style Hotel Molokai, which is on the beach about 2 miles east of Kaunakakai.
