Pitching was the difference

Bottom line. You can imagine every scenario you want but they had better pitching top to bottom. I know it's hard to accept that USM has a better pitching staff than LSU but that is a fact. Hopefully coach can solve that problem over the next year. Not sure how far some of you think a team should go in the NCAA tournament without solid pitching. They did a great job with what they had and can't wait to see what he can do with a couple of studs in the lineup.

And poor defensive play

It’s insane to think we got this far with this staff. We need to completely revamp our arms. Thank god for the transfer portal.

Not in this tournament. Nope. Pitching was the difference. It is so obvious. And he can address it during offseason. We had ZERO stud aces. ZERO. Hilliard is a very good pitcher but he doesn't strike fear in any opponent. That is what a program like LSU needs and has had in the past.

We have a staff full of decent middle relievers. I agree.

Pitching beats hitting!

This has been the most shocking the past few years. LSU always had a Friday night starter that just put fear in the other team. LSU misses that a LOT!

USM: B- hitting, B pitching.
LSU: A hitting, D pitching.
LSU: A hitting, D pitching.

USM had more hits than us and we have a higher hitting grade

In the past when LSU made those national championship runs it seems we always had at least two shutdown guys.

Because of our poor pitching.

How can you call that staff “B pitching”?
We saw just about every arm on their team, and almost all of them were good pitchers.
How far down the LSU pitching depth chart do you go until you find an average pitcher?

What would you grade USM's pitching?

I think his grade is accurate and maybe even slightly inflated. Our pitchers put those hitters in a lot of advantageous counts. And even when we had them down in the count we’d triple or quadruple up on the same pitch…many times. It’s not as hard to catch up to 95 when you know it’s coming.
Consider this, Army and Kennesaw state pitchers held USM to 6 runs in two games, including an extra inning game. We gave up 22 in 3 games to them.

What a lot of Rantards file to recognize is: If our pitching was better, other teams would not as many hits! Watching these games it's pretty obvious opposing teams can hit it exactly where they want it to go. When pitching is good, there are LESS HITS!!

Yeah, I'm a little biased as a USM fan....but it's an A-, B+ at lowest staff.
You guys ripped our best reliever Harper, but he's good...ya'll were just an awful matchup for him.
Your staff wasn't a D either. Maybe by LSU standards, it is a D. Or maybe the starting pitching is a D. But it's a C staff overall. C pitching staffs just don't fare well in SEC or regional play.

Because poor pitching helped their hitting tremendously. Constantly behind in counts, hanging breaking balls, etc.

No doubt. However we did score 18 runs in 3 games. Not shabby against a team that won 45 games with a TEAM ERA a tick over 3. So it was indeed OUR pitching that came up al little short. Even with all the micromanaging.

Going into the game yesterday I felt like LSU had to score 10 runs to beat USM. Sending Bianco to steal second was a big mistake especially with Josh Pearson bunting. I did not like the call at all and when Bianco was tagged out the momentum really shifted in USM's favor. LSU needed at least a couple of more runs in that inning.

LSU deserves far from an A in hitting for their collapse when a LH pitcher steps on the mound. A vs RH pitchers, D vs LH pitchers. Probably B- or C+ overall.
