Media coverage.

quote:

Jillian Peterson: On some level, we were waiting because mass shootings are socially contagious and when one really big one happens and gets a lot of media attention, we tend to see others follow. But this one was particularly gutting. I have three elementary school kids, one of which is in 4th grade.

Media needs to be held liable for inspiring mass shootings. Sue them into insolvency!

Yeah while I would love to see our media taken down a notch or two... This isn't the cause... it may be the nudge but not the root cause...

This discovery should be filed in the "no shite" category.

The media are shite stirrers. They pit one group against another group all the time.

The media IS the enemy.

May they burn in hell for the destruction they caused this country.

I agree with this, especially this, but it is a cop out to say that the media is the root cause of most of these mass shootings...

We are being played...

Obviously mental illness is the overriding factor but media coverage is what allows them to manifest.

Like suggesting cars are the reason for car accidents. Well, yeah but that doesn’t really tell us anything.

People need to be held liable for allowing the media to exercise this amount of influence and control.

Turn the tv off, put down the phone, practice critical thinking. One of these things has never hurt anyone, but the other two...

Yeah, you are dealing with a person, not the tool here... While the media has some influence there are many other factors at play to go into the number of shootings we see today, whether "mass" or otherwise...

Not to be “that guy” but it would appear the people who extensively studied mass shooters disagree with you when they explicitly say that these events are “contagious”.

There is a reason why TV stations take great pains not to broadcast streakers when they run into the field.

From your article...

There’s this really consistent pathway. Early childhood trauma seems to be the foundation, whether violence in the home, sexual assault, parental suicides, extreme bullying. Then you see the build toward hopelessness, despair, isolation, self-loathing, oftentimes rejection from peers. That turns into a really identifiable crisis point where they’re acting differently. Sometimes they have previous suicide attempts.

Well if "Professors" say it, it must be inarguable.

Yeah and cars are the root cause of car accidents and driving is the pathway on which we all arrive at car accidents.

No need to be obtuse.

Really, this is early in your article... Did you even read it?

Are you retarded or something?

This likely is one of the primary motivators. Saw a psychologist on tv after columbine explain not to show photos or get biographical of killers, show numbers, play sirens or any of the regular coverage you see.

The fastest way for a young, irrelevant person to become important is to shoot up some folks.

Thank goodness for their logical, credible, well-thought out assessment.

For awhile over here we thought it could be due to kids playing violent and other culturally demeaning video games for hours on end, over and over all day until there are no longer any folds left on their brains.

Coupled with pervasive drug use to remove whatever few strictures to their base instincts remain.

Or is it all just congenital psychopathy, or a nexus of all of it making up this present witch's brew that is contributing to the carnage.

Just heard from a cop that these kids can identify every gun on the market.

The picture keeps coming into focus more and more that these video games and other media-promoted deviancies are all too often just more tools in the now pervasive, oppressive marxian "cybernetics" used in their "man-machine" behavioral conditioning projects to further upset the peace and tranquility in the society.

Have to say that related to the most violent race in the country presently, locally here we had a Counselor for Operation Headstart admit to the world that in his classes, he shows them Kung Fu movies "to keep their minds active and work off their innate aggressions."

Wonder how many other little kids in proximity to his students have paid big for that social theory.

Waiting to see if the Uvalde parents sue the media now since they’ve already started the lawsuits against Daniel Defense…

Will probably be waiting a while.

Someone’s got a case of the mondays!

I’m not the one arguing a point no one is debating. Obviously the shooters have mental illness. The adults in the room have moved to trying to determine how you mitigate the people with these problems from being inspired to cause death and destruction.

Please try and keep up.
