Perhaps an unpopular opinions, but they're useless at this point. The most jacked up rides seem to have inspection stickers and have perfectly healthy people with handicapped tags.

Yet, if you get a random CEL light and you can't get one.

The whole thing is a waste of resources, time, and money. Inspection sticker checkpoints are a racket.

Some states don't require them unless it's a salvage or a used car that is purchased out of state and they still manage to survive.

eta: sorry, probably belongs on the politics board.

We all agree. La is too greedy to do away with them, though.

Our government debated getting rid of them recently but we couldn't handle the reduced jobs that would follow

Some legislator tries to abolish it nearly every session. LSP comes out crying and it never passes.

Tbh I haven’t had one for years.

Biggest fricking racket Louisiana has going.

If I get stopped, I will just say I was on my way to get one.

Having an already expired tag is more $$$ than not having one.

I’d pay 20 every 2 years to the state. Hell do away with them and add it to my registration renewal.

I had one on my truck when it was purchased. Been expired for 3 years. Just got my 1st ticket for it a couple months back and it was at a “safety check point”. It’s literally a crock of shite. And the fine is over 300

If abolishing them is a popular opinion, why don't we make it happen?

We live in a representative democracy, no?

I’m 52 and remember a long time ago at least they made you turn on your headlights, check the brake lights and wipers and the horn. Lol.

Now? Gimme $20 and sign here.

I went 5 or 6 years without one during and after college. It actually made me not drink and drive, basically ever.

Eventually, I caved and paid the fines.

But, those were the good all days. Life on the lam.

Yeah it's just a money grab. That's pretty much all the government does to us.

Mississippi abolished our inspection program a few years back. I had concerns that There would be a bunch of unsafe vehicles on the road in a few years. That didn’t happen. Turned out to be the best decision ever.

The police now enforce safety issues on vehicles. They write warning tickets for lights that are not working on Saturday nights. On sundays, there is a line of folks at Autozone buying lightbulbs!

Louisiana has it so good and you don't even realize it.

Imagine a world of Personal Property tax where you pay $800-$1500+ a year on a car you own. You people would have a heart episode.

I lived that in Virginia.

Louisiana pays every kind of tax available - sales, property, income etc. And we have the 50th ranked state to show for it. We aren't 50th in taxes though. We are 24th

Stupidest fricking shite ever in Louisiana. Just a money grab and gives cops another reason to pull you over.

All I'm saying is there are more taxes out there to be had. An inspection sticker is a waste but could always be worse.

Louisiana will always be at the bottom because our culture doesn't exactly emphasize achievement on the personal level. It's about comfortability and living for today. Getting whats mine - whats "owed".

That carries over to our politics. Go look at how money is appropriated in this State. Its horrendous.

We get to pay extra in the BR area due to our air quality even though it's all from the chemical plants
