Circa 1870, the North fought the South in the Civil War. Half a century later, around 1920, worker unrest, racial tensions and anti-Communist sentiment caused another nationwide upsurge of violence. Then, 50 years later, the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement triggered a third peak in violent political, social and racial conflict. Fifty years after that will be 2020. If history continues to repeat itself, we can expect a violent upheaval in the United States in a few years

quote:

But we might not be so lucky this time around. If Turchin's model is right, then the current polarization and inequality in American society will come to a head in 2020. "After the last eight years or so, notice how the discourse in our political class has become fragmented. It's really unprecedented for the last 100 years," he said. "So basically by all measures, there are social pressures for instability that are much worse than 50 years ago."

It might be worth noting that this article is from 2012. Of course they had no prior knowledge of the pandemic lockdowns and BLM movement adding fuel to the fire. But perhaps an uptick in violence was inevitable.

The problem is exaggerated because large financial interests want instability. They may get more than the bargained for.

Generally speaking, every 2nd generation repeats the mistakes of the past because they lack first-hand knowledge. About every 2 decades, hard-learned lessons are often forgotten or not deemed worthy to pass on. It’s a failure of humanity.

2012 and 2020 are not that far apart, we also had bill gates telling us a pandemic was coming in 2015. All seems too calculated to be coincidence

dumb, and kind of stretching it with the 1920's description. By that metric, you could say that any era is a 'rage' cycle.

This sounds kind of like the "hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak me, weak men create hard times" cycle.

I’d say tension isn’t as high amongst the people. The vast majority of people just wanna be able to live unbothered.

The tension is between the gubment and the people

Stupid me! I was taught that the Civil war was fought 1861-1865. I knew I shouldn't have believed those conservative teachers in the 50's and early sixties. Of course thats before the left's revisionist history.
