Who remembers the channel "The Box" (I think its channel 78 back in the day for the OGs)

I wanna hear some memories of this GOAT innovative idea where a channel on cable played videos on a pay per play basis. Any 90s kids in BR knows what I'm talking about. This channel made Bone Thugs N Harmony career and they're likely still collecting residuals.
Seriously though, anyone know the history behind it and if it was successful at any point?

I remember watching it all the time in the late 90s with No Limit and Cash Money constantly playing lol. I was pissed when it went off air in 2000 or 2001.

Yep late 90s we used to hang out at 1 house blasting it on the TV every day during the summer and clean up before his parents got home from work. I think you could call in to request a video for a fee but they always seemed to play the same songs at the same time every day

Let's be real. You're not a true BR OG unless you know what I'm talking about

The Box was great for discovering new stuff.
I feel like TLC Waterfalls was one of their all time most played songs.

I’m positive that Five’s management had a deal with the Box where they would play Meet Me When the Lights Go Out once every hour or two.
Based on how much No Limit was played, especially I Got the Hook Up and Make ‘Em Say Uhh, I wonder if No Limit had a similar deal. They also could have just had devoted fans.
I remember lots of Backstreet Boys being played as well, but that made sense since they were huge at the time.

Five had to have some deal due to me actually remembering them but was wondering if it was a locally owned channel? My main memory was always Crossroads #1 every time, every countdown

You must have watched it a year or two before me.
I remember lots of Back Street Boys, Britney Spears before she got huge, some Limp Bizkit, and a ton of No Limit. Also Slip N Slide stuff like Trick Daddy and Trina.
I looked it up and it started in Miami and became a cable channel around the US but not in every city.

16 year old me, discovered and subsequently fell in love with Brittany Spears after seeing her on The Box.
I left Brittany for Christina Aguleria.
Mandy Moore was tempting but wasn’t Christina.
I think I chose wisely.

Channel 68
Huge nostalgia right there. I remember a young cfish waiting oh so patiently for sisquo’s “thong song” to come on almost everyday. That and Blue (da ba dee daba die). That was my shite at 10 years old
It went off air in 01 and was replaced with MTV2
Music videos were a huge deal back then. MTV had the “making the video” show whenever a new big one was released.
