Curious,
Is this river pronounced "false" as in opposite of true?
Or some weird French way like "Fah SAY"?

False as in not true. And it’s not a river, it’s an oxbow lake.

No. It’s false. It was once part of the Mississippi River. It’s an oxbow shaped lake now.

You're thinking of Lake Fausse Point near St. Martinville.
