The Spurs will use the ticket sales/revenue they get from this to demand a new arena in SA to be built (on taxpayer’s dime).

I think they hoped the area around the AT&T Center would get developed but it just never happened. A new arena would need to go into a better part of town

The arena is still less than 20 years old, but I think a downtown venue would draw better. The city is expanding more to the north and west, which is away from the AT&T Center. Downtown SA always has stuff going on, and you’re more likely to attract the tourist dollar.

Pretty much the same with the Alamodome, Henry B convention center, etc.

San Antonio people just expect everyone to be happy driving between event centers and the Riverwalk complex or downtown. They throw all kinds of money at building facilities, but don't worry about tax incentives and cooperation needed to develop normal things around them like nice restaurants, drugstores, convenience stores, or music venues close by.
