At first, I thought this whole plan would backfire on Kim and Jimmy. But after watching Jimmy interact with Kim after the Howard rumble, I don't think Jimmy was tricked by Howard at all.
I think Jimmy played along to give Howard a semblance of a win before he is totally destroyed by their scheme.

Yeah, getting caught has to be part of the scheme but, how?

I agree about backfiring but it still may depending on how the Howard and Mike PIs go, but it's a stronger consideration that it won't backfire now.
I do think they expected Howard to catch them because they were too obvious, but I also think Howard did trick Jimmy at least relative to Howard showing his hand that he found out.
Just spit balling here but jimmy may have let Howard win like you suggest. but Howard went along with Jimmy's trick giving Jimmy semblance that Howard didn't have deeper schemes. Doesn't mean Howard wins, but leaves room for Jimmy's plan to blow up and make this more interesting than Jimmy just winning outright

Zero chance this is what happened.
When Jimmy and Kim were laying in bed he says to Kim, "I let Howard suck me in to his game. I should have left him standing there like a putz. Why did I do that?"
Jimmy and Kim may have thought or even wanted Howard to eventually find them out, but there is no way he went there that night to get in a ring with Howard.
