One thing is clear in New Orleans: The Saints genuinely believe they're competitors. Despite losing franchise faces Drew Brees and Sean Payton over the last couple years, nobody's talking about rebuilding or restarting or even retooling. The "re-" prefix has no place in NOLA! This franchise just forges forward like it's operating in a championship window, with last year's playoff absence attributed to a ravenous injury bug. Right or wrong, it's admirable. But is it wise?

I didn't read this but what would the alternative be?

That and literally not making it b/c a team with a huge lead week 18 blew it late in the 4th
I mean who else would be a c-hair away from the playoffs with a 3rd string QB starting a few games and a TE playing QB for a couple others?

The analytical/economical view is that you want picks b/c no team has shown it's above other teams in terms of draft ability. All teams are bad at drafting, essentially, so you want more chances to get lucky and hit.
The Saints seem to legit believe they are the one outlier in the NFL in terms of drafting, so they can burn picks to target their guys.

The Saints had a legit shot if they remained healthy.

The falcons love is the most shocking part. I live here and sports radio hated their draft.

The probability that Olave hits is very high so your whole post is garbage

Saints would have been a terror last year with a healthy Jameis, Thomas, Kamara, and OL last year.
The national media truly doesn't understand how good we would have been. I think it's a combination of relying on D (both in terms of not being efficient and such an identity flip) and having a cast off at QB (that they assume is terrible).

I'm posting statistical data. It's not my theory.
And the problem is if Olave isn't an all-pro very quickly, we overpaid. If Olave is a bust we completely fricked ourselves.
Also, in terms of proper strategy, Olave hitting or not is somewhat irrelevant. You can do the wrong thing and still have things turn out OK. Using hindsight bias and results-oriented thinking from the future is not the correct way to judge decisions in real time.
If you call an all-in for 100BBs preflop with 7-2, it's a bad decision even if you luckbox a win in the hand. Easiest example for this argument.
I have been explaining this argument on this site for over a decade. The latest example was the idiot Orgeron. Even after we won it all in 2019 I didn't back down from logic and good strategy and I was ultimately proven correct. This is the same situation.

They don't seem to understand that people don't hate picking Olave, they hate the amount of capital used on a WR that while could be a pro-bowl guy, does not show the makings of am All-Pro. You could have gotten a higher potential lower floor guy in the second if you were planning on taking a risk.
This is the same thing they did with Trautman and wasting capital to go up and get him, but at least they thought his ceiling was really high.
Olave will never be a #1 WR unless you count someone like Cooks as a true #1. He will always be a #2, and that is why wasting not only the capital from the Philly trade, but then even more to get him was not logical. It was a waste in that sense.
He may turn out to be a really solid WR, but he will never be worth amount paid for him. Reminds me of the Ingram trade but worse.

Really a TE playing QB, Hill is a QB, been his whole playing career. He is only switching positions to use his athletic ability and not be on the sideline with a clip board. he wants to play and help this team, anyway he can. remember he has a winning record as a QB 1...

i dont think the Saints FO agrees with you, and they have some skins on the wall to back it up. but its all TBD until 3-4 years from now.

Ingram is now our all time leading rusher....if Olave even comes close to that type of production, you should he escatic we got him for that.

Very well said, SlowFlowPro. I completely agree with everything you said. I hate the Saints draft strategy. They should be trading back, not trading up.
All teams are bad at the draft. Scouting is not an exact science. It’s very hit or miss. Therefore, you want to be able to have more guesses so that you’ll be more likely to hit on some of them. The Saints just don’t get it. They think their shite doesn’t stink or something.
Just ignore all the mouth breathers on this Saints Talk forum who can’t think their way out of a paper bag.

This just shows how abysmal the Saints RB history has been. It’s a bad take on your part.

"Blew it" was a kind way of putting it.
They also make it outright if the NFL grants us an extra 24-48 hours to play the Dolphins like they did with the Rams and a couple of other teams the week before. The Saints lose half their team after they play Tampa Bay and Tampa Bay has nobody on their COVID list? Come on now.

Per the media if you drafted Willis, Corral, Ridder, or Howell you “won” the draft. Never seen the media salivate so hard over late round QBs they they had crowned at 1-2 round picks.

Their terrible strategy has them in the top 3 of best drafting teams for the last decade. Up there with the Ravens who everyone jerks off over.
