Obama was somewhat moderate and in today's political climate the far left would label him an alt right bigot if they held him to the same standards as everyone else.

Absolutely and the left just conveniently forgets this.
1. Obama was a bit conservative by today's radical-mainstream left standards
2. Obama was once asked about gay marriage and he danced around it for a second and changed the subject fast. Imagine today, the father of the radical movement, and he can't give a straightforward absolute yes to gay marriage.
