B&S Intek Vtwin Riding Mower (Husqvarna) Trouble Starting

Never put anything but no-ethanol in it, kept up with the typical maintenance. It'll turn over and over and can take forever to start. Spark plugs are good, fuel supply is good. It runs fine once it starts. What should I look at first (and second)? The battery is weak after sitting over winter, but I charge it and I also use a jump starter - it turns over fine. Could it still be that? Carb? I don't want to take apart too much for no good reason.

How many hrs on machine. Close to 100 or over adjust valve lash. Valve lash to loose = hard starting especially if it runs good after starting.

It's over 100 for sure. Haven't ever adjusted that, but looks easy enough. Looks like aim for 4-5/1000ths? Thanks, I'll try it!

Valve adj fixed my exact same problem. Guy said it was pretty common in that engine.

Well that was it, and more. Forget the gap being a bit loose, it was so loose the exhaust valve rod on the left side was just laying there, not even in position. Put it back, adjusted gaps on the rest, and it started right up. I knew this place would help! Happy to learn yet another thing that can keep things moving.

set the valves on it, its most likely the cause
watch the "taryl fixes all" youtube videos to see how easy it is to do. its something you should do on a mower every 5 yrs or so, especially if it seems hard to turn over with a good battery LINK

Wow...I think you just helped me solve my Dad's problem with his Cub Cadet. We've been fighting this problem off and on for a few years. He's even managed to break the starter shaft.
Another good reason to read these seemingly non-relevant threads.
