If you're going to list a Maison Blanche, I will raise you a Goudchaux's:

That was the main place I liked to shop for clothing, either Cortana or downtown (I think it was on Laurel?). I remember $20 levi's and stuff like that.
Hell, I remember using their mechanic shop at Cortana. It was standalone in the parking lot, think it became a Firestone after awhile.

I'll see your Goudchaux's and raise you a D. H. Holmes

This brings up the fact that there were TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT store chains in LA: Godchaux's ( New Orleans) and Goudchaux's (Baton Rouge). Note the different spellings in the signs:

New Orleans/Metairie:

Baton Rouge:

To make matters even more confusing, in the 1980s Goudchaux's of Baton Rouge bought out Maison Blanche.

If we are talking Godchaux's, my favorite was the one downtown on Florida Blvd. It was the longest department store in the world. And I always remember the Santa on top the store that could be heard miles away on Christmas
