Always wanted to play this game, what is the connection with CT?

I heard the same about Chrono Trigger. I am not sure.
CC has a Ni No Kuni wrath of the white witch, Tales of Velsperia feel to it.
I have been waiting for a game like this. The others released of late seem like they are for kids.

It was fine game on its own but disappointing as a CT sequel if that makes any sense. There ARE connections there but just not enough to warrant being a sequel to arguably the GOAT JRPG.

Any news on a DQ12 release?

Chrono Cross was extremely disappointing when it came out. Chrono Trigger brings back some extreme nostalgia. Along with Secret of Mana, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Zelda: a link to the past, FF2 & 3.
The best game of my childhood remains dragonforce. Very rare game with the limited release, but it was awesome. Unfortunately, you couldn't save your progress because of the bugs Sega Saturn had. I would leave my Saturn on for 6 months at a time.

I just saw the price for this is $19.99. Someone said it was a crappy remake. So disappointing if so.

I tried so hard to get into Chrono Cross back in the day and I just couldn't. I can always play for the first few hours or so and end up getting bored and quit.
I see that this remaster has speed boosters, maybe that will help. I remember the battle system being painfully slow, even for a turn based JRPG.

The battle system was stupid.
Bad battle theme (which kinda matters in a JRPG).
40+ characters (including a broom
)
Much smaller world to explore compared to Trigger.
Convoluted story.
It did have a great soundtrack though.

This might be okay if it's simply a "remaster" and not another one of those recent remakes that look like bad mobile games (Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Pixel Whatever).
I doubt I'd have the patience to play a game like this anymore, but I still listen to the Chrono Cross soundtrack sometimes. I wouldn't mind hearing a new take on that. Maybe if Mitsuda is actually involved they won't ruin that part.
The battle theme was the weakest part, I agree. And of course you hear it constantly.

Chrono Cross is one of those games I always forget I played all the way through, but when I watch videos or hear the music I'm like "Oh yeah, I remember that part". There are some interesting ideas and yes the soundtrack was cool, but all in all it was far inferior to Chrono Trigger.

Sea of Stars is suppose to be Chrono Trigger like releasing Holiday 2022
Sea Of Stars trailer
Also silly question: but I may have played Chrono Trigger years ago and forgot. Can I play it somewhere to remember?

For 20 bucks this doesn't look bad
CHRONO CROSS HD Remaster: THE RADICAL DREAMERS EDITION First 40 Minutes-VIDEO
Posted on 4/10/22 at 1:45 pm to cajunangelle
Not really commenting on the video, but I bought this game on Switch last night. That framerate.....whoa boy....they somehow managed to make the remaster run worse than it did on the original Playstation.
Before you scream "bad Switch port" at me, according to Digital Foundry, PS4/PS5 have the exact same issues.
People on the internet are claiming it's not that bad or that the PS1 had the exact same issues. It's pretty damn bad when a 20 year old game runs at sub 20 FPS during certain scenes, and yes, it is objectively worse in terms of performance than the PS1 original. I really hope they patch this game.
Supposedly, this remaster is basically an emulated version of the PS1 game with the enhanced visuals added on top which may account for the jankiness that you didn't see in the Final Fantasy ports.
That said, the enhanced visuals are pleasing. They aren't mind blowing, but they are similar in nature to the FFVIII remaster. It seems that they at least tried to use AI upscaling on the backgrounds. They didn't do a very good job, but at least they tried. To my knowledge, they didn't attempt this in any of the previous Final Fantasy re-releases, thus the backgrounds do look somewhat better in Chrono Cross than they do in those games. Nothing like the Mogiri Mod for FF9 on PC though.

It's really bad on PS5. Outside of battle it's noticeable but manageable but during battles? My god, it's bad.

That's a shame. Square Enix needed a quick buck so bad that they didn't even bother bug testing this thing.

The more I play, the more this feels nigh unplayable. Walking across random spots of the map at 10 FPS and massive input lag.
