As in, is it less consuming as a way of life, making it any easier to leave? It certainly seems that way everywhere else, IMO.

probably... but the festivals, parades, tailgates, and fish aren't going anywhere

Also the food.

Food is one of many reasons I left.

You can get quality food anywhere. Its just more of a lifestyle centerpiece in La than other places. It was kind of eye opening moving here because nothing really revolves around food except the occasional festival.

Same question for those who have left. Why? If there is family back home, what pulled you away? Job, curiosity?

I left my home state, MT, to go to LSU. Curiosity was the reason for that move. Thought of moving back once, but never pulled the trigger. Now, can't afford it. But will have a second home there in the hopefully very long future when I inherit some of my grandfather's land.

Leaving LA for TN was 100% because of my son. We didn't like the direction LA was going and really dislike the school situation. So moved somewhere that has good pubic schools. We made the correct decision and love living in TN, but its still fun to go back and visit. And we will save a TON on private school tuition. Instead the money goes to his college fund.

The family and friends are definitely a positive, but the running into acquaintances bit is the complete opposite for me

and you do have the option of leaving your family

Pretty big assumption here. Not all careers are easily mobile.

For me, not only do I have a career that isn’t easily movable across state lines, but I have a lot of roots keeping me here. I enjoy visiting with my parents and brothers every week or two. I enjoy getting to play with my niece and nephew and watch them grow up. I’m still very close with my friends from hs, and hang out with them every week. They’re not spread out across the country anymore, snd all live within 45 minutes of my house. I own a house in a great little neighborhood in BR that’s relatively safe and convenient to most of the things I enjoy.

I have a pretty high quality of life for someone like me that’s not easily replaceable elsewhere.

I imagine for a lot of people (our situation included), our careers exist here and only here.

We are very fortunate to be in a situation where we can generally avoid/easily handle a lot of BR's downfalls. That helps a lot. If I was solo and on only my income with limited choices on where I could live, it would be a different story.

I think you misinterpreted my question.

I was asking for people in Louisiana who also possess the ability to leave their family, why haven't they. I was not stating that if you live in Louisiana you absolutely do have the option of leaving family.
