Dropped a bird Sunday as well, north zone TX.
Had a Jake gobble and drum a 180 degrees around us inside of 15 yard circle. Was a good show as I had a first time hunter with me.
Screwed up on a nice bird Saturday. Bird came in so fast and I did not adjust quick enough to get a shot. He busted us at 30 yards.

Killed one in MS on Friday
Walked all over trying to get a gobble with no luck. Finally sat near a foodplot to take a little break at 9:50am. Called once and just sat. 5 min later, a bird came up the hill behind me silently and gave me a 30 yard shot.

There are some being killed in North Alabama.

We killed two in North MS 3/24 and 3/25. I don't think I have ever heard more turkeys than I did Thursday 3/24. Hardly heard a peep this weekend at the same spot. I let one slip up on me silently Saturday, I had chosen a poor setup and he busted me when I was lifting up my gun.

Ya'll must have pretty small birds in mississippi and Louisiana also? My father in laws place in Tennessee they killed a 26.2 and 27 over the weekend. Now those are extremely big for anywhere. But 25s are fairly normal. I figured along the river and crops they'd be pretty big birds?

Most of the gobblers I've killed in Louisiana have been around 18-19bs. Biggest I've shot was 22.

I generally hunt locally in the piney woods of SW MS and the Florida Parishes. 20lbs here is a big turkey. I've killed a pile of them around here and I think the biggest one I ever put on a scale was 22.5lbs. I called one up around here for a guy that was 24.2 one time, but to this day I still question the accuracy of that scale.

We have small birds in the Florida Panhandle so I wasn’t talking shite. 17-19 lbs is the normal range also.
I just figured with the Mississippi River and farm land they would get bigger around there is all.

I imagine double spurs are somewhat rare.

Same bird has beaten me two mornings so far.
I actually like this kind of party.
