if they make 4.0 for the year i do allow them to buy something bigger and usually bring them out to dinner one at a time to the restruant of thier choice.
but frick paying 1k, that is their job to make those grades. I pay for food, house, thousands upon thousands for sports, toys, bikes etc....
i am blessed with great kids though that understand the importance of school even at very young ages so i dont have to worry about that. also they are extremely competitive with one another and their classmates and cant stand to not have the best grades.

I view it the same way, just through a slightly different lens.
I taught them that school is their job and primary source of income.
I don't spend a lot on my kids for gifts, even for bdays and christmas. They each have the potential to earn $1K plus for their "work performance" at school (their current job).
My 6th grader bought a xbox last year with his school money and was very proud of himself. I much prefer this method than "santa" or me having to spoil his arse with it for bday or christmas. If you want to have something of value, earn it.

quote:You signed up for providing housing and food by having a kid, but you could stop giving the toys and other extras and switch to the earn it via grades method. It's an opportunity to teach the value of money and work.
