No. We'd lose half the country the first year and I think that's putting it mildly. I've read one second after. It wouldn't be pretty. Assuming something like that does happen just pray to everything holy in your life you're healthy and between the ages of 18 and 35 because what's coming after won't be for the faint of heart.

gamma radiation from nuclear weapons can cause an EMP strike whenever it hits the target. Depending on the type of atomic weapon the stronger the yield the more significant the EMP.

EMP detonated somewhere above Kansas would have devastating effects for most all of US with the exception of parts of Alaska. . I have read military estimates that 90% of US citizens dead within a year. Even if that number is super high and you say 50%, it is a staggering number.
