Anybody else feel the same way?

You didn't miss much. It changed my life for the good but only recommend it for ONE contract only IF you don't have your goal set. I didn't know what I wanted to do.

I did my time and got out. I have zero school debt and made a lot of friends but it leads to such terrible pay and a miserable life. Especially in today's military.

It can also lead to a great life and very good pay. The military, like most things in life, is about personal drive and taking advantage of the situations you are put into. If you are too stupid or lazy to network and acquire a diverse skill set in the military then you probably would be about the same in the civilian side too.
