Is our 2011 defense better than 2001 Miami’s and 2021 Georgia’s?

It's prob a push in alot of areas tbh, I would take our defensive backfield over anyone else but some will nitpick that West Virginia game as a negating factor

I don't know how good that Miami really was. They played 4 ranked opponents prior to playing Nebraska. None were in the top 10 at the time they played.

Idk about 2001 Miami. It was better than 2021 UGA. 2011 team didn’t have 40 hung on them. Season high for points given up was 27

2011 is the best college defense ever assembled

And we won't ever hear that because of 01/09

Could the 2nd best defense this century and it still wouldn’t be the best defense in the SEC West that season unfortunately

Neither Miami nor UGA had Jefferson/Lee at QB.

Think about this - we played UGA in the SECC game. We had no offensive points in the first half at all. None. No first down either. We may have even had negative yards in the first half.

We still won 42-10.

Empty yards are meaningless, especially when you force 4 turnovers Given how prolific that team was the rest of the year, our defensive performance against them was impressive.

You totally butchered this thought, but I assume you're trying to say bama was better. Don't agree at all, especially when considering the teams we played.

Yes they were the first defense since 1986 to lead CFB in fewest PPG Tot Yards Rush Yards AND passing yards all by fairly healthy margins, they also had more higher picks. Spare me the schedule stuff, if you take out WVU who threw for 463 vs LSU our avg pypg drops from 171.4 to 148.9 still well behind Bama 111.5

I realize this does align with the narrative that it was all Les Miles fault (yes his offensive game play was awful) to actually admit Alabama was a better team but they were and arguably the 2011 Bama D was basically the 2000 Ravens or 85 Bears of CFB.

Well if an LSU fans say they are not biased in their claim that LSU is the best out of a group of teams, that is all I need to hear to be convinced.

It was the greatest combination of defense and special teams in college football history. Turnover margin was through the roof for that team, I want to say it was something like +30 for the year. We had an unreal return game, with Tyrann and Mo. We had a very good FG kicker, and an all-timer in Wing in being able to put the ball exactly where he wanted it. Who would ever forget that 86 yarder that completely flipped the field for us in that first Bama game. And we had guys like Jarvis Landry on the headhunting squad. Out of this world. The D/ST was so strong that we came within a cat's whisker of what would have been, at that time, the greatest college football season of all time. And, hey, we DID beat the only team we lost to that year. On their home field. And they found out this year how hard it is to beat the same team twice.

It matters but not to the degree you are making it out. We are not comparing the 2019 Offense to say a Hawaii offense. I know I’m wasting my time because you don’t understand marginal difference like that. But you are delusional if you think they wouldn’t have been able to beat Oregon WVU and UGA we did have I think 6 common opponents (4 other SEC west teams +Fla and Tenn) and they destroyed all of those teams too.

LSU played a better schedule which is why there should not have been a rematch but overall Alabama had a better team and defense and of course coach staff. Sorry
