They aren’t doing it to compete with the other big tech firms, they are doing it to further crush any smaller competitors. Same reason why Wal-Mart and Target raised their pay.
False. They have a labor issue and cannot find enough workers. Also there won’t be that many people at the 350k level. That’s not what people will start off at. That will be max base pay for any position.

my salary would have to be a good bit north of $200k to go work for Amazon/AWS... soul crushing employer

This is not sustainable.
75% of households buy from Amazon. And they are growing their AWS business, which is way more money being made than selling toilet paper.

You used to get it through stock. Stock is a little down. Only way to retain/hire people.

Yeah, Google came after my wife, dangled stock, but it came at a cost: lots of travel. First off, Google's interview process is completely ludicrous.
Worked out great, though. Her current employer, IBM, without knowing she was interviewing, boosted her up the ladder, no bump in travel, next rung up is VP, which, since she checks the female box, will happen. More than matched what Google was offering without working for the dark side.

I guess this is saying a director or vp was maxing out at $160k base. That doesn’t seem right. Obviously, they may have had some ridiculous bonus structure but it still seems odd.

I love it when some communist fry cook
at Wendy's who hates capitalism and people who earn more than his $8.50 an hour, comes here to downvote people discussing earnings in the six-figure categories.

Wages are prices.
I've always thought of wages as a lagging most other factors of inflation. And something that sometimes doesn't grow even during inflation (the stagflation period). From what I read, I think the last few years have seen some "real wage growth" (the amount wages grow over inflation.

Employees get restricted stock units and a signing bonus that’s paid over a period of paychecks in lieu of salary. Ex. Might give you a $100k signing bonus added to your checks over a couple years. RSUs start vest on first anniversary.
