Planted baseball field in pantera rye grass middle of November. Grass was coming up beautiful and green. Summer temperatures hit the week before Christmas and most of it died on the infield. I replanted it 14 days ago and hardly any of the new seed has sprouted. Anyone have any ideas what might have happened to kill the grass, or for possibly getting grass to sprout. Still have about a month before it starts getting played on.

Been pretty cool/cold the past couple weeks, even cool season annual grasses require a bit of warmer temperatures for the seeds to germinate. I would guess you need a bit more time for the remaining seeds to germinate (of course, I’m assuming you have good quality seed).

Also in Cenla and have same problem on my field with Pantera. When ordering it, I spoke directly to sales rep and he informed me that seed production this year was bad. I have fertilized it and still have poor results.
The lack of rain, heat and then temps in 20s last week have really stunted mine bad. Think I’m going to spread some field run rye and just roll with it. Have talked to many other coaches in our area and everyone saying same thing.
Positive is that I’m not mowing every other day!

I also am not happy with the pantera this year. It came up nice and thick but has all but disappeared.

I over seeded with 200 pounds of double eagle rye and it didn’t sprout. I’ve read and heard that several people had problems with rye not sprouting this year.

That’s the only positive. I’m going to seed it one more time and hopefully get some growth. Feel like I wasted $500 bucks.

Man reading this thread makes me feel better. Mine is not looking good. 50 lbs in an area that needs half that and it looks like shite. Oh well 2 more months and my zoysia will start to green up

Talking with coaches from all over the state, it seems like the seed quality has been pretty terrible this year. Perennial and turf type annuals have had the same results. Also with the price of fertilizer so high I don't think everyone is fertilizing like the normally do.

I planted Marshall Ryegrass and crimson clover. Neither are looking good. Ryegrass nonexistent and clover is spotty. A year ago i had lushious green growth everywhere. Glad to know I'm not the only one this year seeing problems.
