It's amazing how American politicians are more concerned about Ukraine's sovereignty and border, yet welcome and encourage illegals at our own southern border. Infuriating.

That was a really really good tirade. Very effective messaging. Should be on every billboard in the country.

I'm no isolationist. History has shown that when we sit around and do nothing, our enemies advance against our interests. The world is too interconnected to remain detached from its dealings. While Trump didn't start any new wars while he was in office, he sure as shite kept ISIS, Syrian, and Russian mercenaries occupied in that part of the world. Killed a lot of them, too.

With all that said, I think Ukraine and her neighbors need to show a little backbone and let Putin know there will be a high price if he wants to "annex" any more sovereign Ukrainian soil. We should only get involved militarily if he goes after a NATO country. However, all of this shite could have been avoided if we had made Ukraine part of NATO years ago.

You think making Ukraine a Nato country would ease tensions?

NATO discussions is what aggravated the situation.

Imagine Russians parking nukes in Juarez. Would that make you feel better?

He was criticizing those who don't have a problem with our southern border being open, but are worried about Russia crossing Ukraine's border.

Yeah, I do. Because for all their bark, Russia is a second-rate military power. They do not have near the capabilities that NATO, backed by the United States, would bring to the table.

Distance really does not matter when it comes to modern-day ICBMs.

He was ranting against just the opposite. Were you watching? His talking point was Pelosi has filed a bill mandating U.S. money & military personnel be used to protect Ukraine's borders.

Mentioned that to someone on r/worldnews last night (my mistake) and got called a troll. I feel like everyone is forgetting our reaction to nukes being sent to Cuba, which was actually a response to nukes we set up close to the USSR.

If it makes you feel better, there was either a foreign policy expert or ex military guy interviewed on Fox today. His take was different than most who think Ukraine is gone. He said the military of Ukraine today is not the same as it was some years ago. He said Russia will suffer great casualties in warring with Ukraine. And he said that their current number of troops are not sufficient to hold Ukraine. So they will suffer harm though they might prevail as an occupying force. This will destroy Russia in the eyes of the world. But Russia is very concerned about democratic nations on the border and may try to reconstitute the lands of the old Soviet Union as a goal. Putin is 69 years old and has hoodwinked that country as a leader for life for a while now. We live in a different world where all Russian people can't be cut off from the internet world. And a more modern Russian people may get a lump in their gut when their boys begin to die.
I got into a stupid YouTube discussion the other day with a Russian I'm sure. I called Putin a dictator and they tried to convince me belligerently I know nothing. It's amazing how well propaganda works with the Russians. I just don't think it can work as well as it used to.

I was watching. He was criticizing those who don't have a problem with our southern border being open, but are ready for war, or at least sending weapons and money to keep Russia out of Ukraine.

I know how Tucker is. He's pretty intractable on this issue. No war for the US in Europe. But just as a poster said in this thread, if Russia develops back into a belligerent nation with the goal of overthrowing democratic neighbors, we will have to do something about it. We just can't wait for it to get worse and worse. Humankind has a history of warring and beating people and countries into submission. That's not going to stop while we argue amongst ourselves about the southern border. There really is no equivalence in the two situations.

I can't think of the word she used in the bill, but it is synonymous with "impenetrable." Nancy Pelosi calling for an impenetrable border is laughable.

The only argument I've heard that makes sense re: Ukraine is, we need to maintain the integrity of nonproliferation deals. In other words, if we have a part in convincing a nation to give up nukes then we have to back them after they do so.

I honestly am way behind on global politics though, so haven't thought this through.

It is a complex situation but simple in other ways. If Russia keeps lining up and massing men and war machinery on the borders of sovereign nations, we have to do something about it. No other country can on its' own. The UK is pretty stout but they need us. But without us vast parts of Europe could be steam rolled. So it is a matter for all who even care to read these threads to decide whether is any there there in this Russia shite.

I'm not concerned about nukes. If Russia nukes, they are done. There was some talk a while back about the US considering low yield tactical nukes being added to the arsenal. I'm not sure we ever went with that.
