It's off to a decent start. Your usual suspects from a Fellowes drama. Baranski is tailormade for this role. The rest of the cast is a Broadway fan's dream. Looking forward to the actors listed to show up later on.

Fellowes has said that he might reference Downton Abbey in this series, so we'll see if Cora Crawley's parents or grandparents show up.

I liked the first episode and look forward to the series. Baranski is tailor made for the role. She also looks great for her age.

Gonna check it out soon! I had a class a few years ago about the Gilded Age, it was very very interesting. Show looks promising.

I just read Larson's book on H.H. Holmes and the Chicago World's Fair. Got me right in the mood for this series.

Yeah I have that book and started reading it and I was enjoying it but ending reading other stuff. I need to go back and finish it. Those world fairs were really something and crazy Holmes was just creeping around.

Quality first episode. Baranski is great in anything she's in IMO and Cynthia Nixon is enjoyable in this role- she brings some much needed buoyance to the feel of it. Very impressed with score by the Gregson Williams Bros. Rupert might be my favorite cinematic composer at the moment. Didn't think much of Streep Jr. at first but she grew on me.

I groaned when I saw her in the trailer. The thing I like about many of these shows (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey) is that it's NOT a bunch of familiar faces.

She's been EVERYWHERE. FOREVER.

And yet she may be turning in the best performance, disappearing into her character.

I got a thing for Carrie Coon going back to her spaghetti strapped tank tops in Leftovers. Not sure how I feel about her performance yet.

Definitely has the same rythm as Downton Abbey. Similar themes, same (unnatural) rapid fire dialog.

I'm going to give it a fair chance.

Going to start it once I'm done with The Morning Show. Watched the trailer last night and it looked good.

I'd give it a shot based on Carrie Coon alone. She's such an underrated actress.

I haven't really been aware of her other than Proxima Midnight (nothing to judge really) but just saw new Ghostbusters and in this she seems to have some depth. Her character portrays an unlikeable yet determined force. The way they let us see her absolute pain of rejection at the end of the episode was soapworthy and as overdramatic as the best of them. She seems like a mix of Cora's ladies maid O'Brian on Downton and Scarlett O'hara. She's going to destroy her ladies maid when she figures her out.

I like the laid back Carson across the street who is more than happy to sit back and watch his O'Brians self-destruct.

For some reason COX Contour had Episode 2 listed as Episode 3.

That scene with the Russells disrupting that Junior League Hollydays was pretty hilarious.

Baranski delivers.

You need to watch arguably the greatest tv show in history then... The Leftovers. If you look at any of The Leftovers threads thats been on this page, almost anyone that has watched it has loved it. Its pretty wild and unique, some amazing characters and great acting.

HBO has a weekly podcast after each episode. Info on some of the real life people the characters are based on and the history of the locations and buildings.

According to the graphic that introduced this story, it begins in 1882. If I remember correctly, Downton Abbey began right at the sinking of the Titanic which, I think was 1912 ish?? Not sure how these stories align.

EDIT - I googled and the Titanic sank April 1912.

It was and she does.

I wasn’t sure after the first episode. I liked it enough to want to see the second episode but I wasn’t fully invested. This episode was great and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

Shoving a homo relationship down our throats in period series’ is so overplayed and lazy if you ask me. Find another way to add a storyline, Fellowes.

I wanna bang Coon

I think Mary Crawley would have been in her early 20s in 1912, so that would put Cora Crawley coming over to England as a "buccaneer" in the late 1880s or early 1890s.

Just finished the first episode and enjoyed it. I like that they have Nixon in this role. They’re pretty much torpedoed her in the new SATC reboot so hopefully she’s a mainstay in this one for awhile.

I also love Baranski in this role. She’s made for those sharp tongued characters.
