What is your best call ?
Me, a 2002 Pittman Sweet Talker slate, with a Primos Grave Digger peg.
Precede that 1st yelp with a whine, and yelp raspy

I know both Preston Pittman and Wilber Primos. I Like the Pittman Sweet & Nasty.
Pittman doesn't need a call, that guy calls turkeys in his sleep.

Hunting turkey on public land , today, there is an 80% chance that another guy will come from another direction
99% of statistics are made up.
If you plan to hunt next to the truck, or drive around in the truck and call and hunt this is absolutely true. But there's plenty of public land out there that's possible to not routinely run into people. I hunt almost exclusively public land about 25 hunts a year and I have only 1-2 issues a year at most. Last year I walked in on 2 people, the first guy the bird was way off and he was sitting on a decoy and not calling, so I just so happened to walk up on him. The 2nd one the guys again were not calling and the bird was on the roost. Both times I backed off. I don't remember anyone screwing up a hunt on me last year.
The key though is to get out of the truck and get away from the roads on public land.

Do you have better luck in the fields or dense woods?

He’s in Bama, tunica is brutal terrain. No fields to speak of unless you want to sneak on prison property.

I know how to get it done on public. I'm just saying it is going to happen. Things are not like they once were. You can come up with an unorthadox scheme but most times the roamers will mess you up.
Going deep, dragging a pirogue, hip boots, 2 hr walks, boat, its all been done and is not uncommon any more.

UPDATE:
I won’t the N Tract Lottery at Tunica.
Planning the scout the next month.
But as mentioned before, the youth weekend before will likely make things impossible

Congrats man!
Like everyone has said— if you’ve never been—the terrain is insane. Honestly makes you believe your in little ozark.
IMO wear hiking boots if you have them. It’s the easiest way around the place. Yes your feet may get wet crossing a creek, but blisters/sore ribs from falling down a gully is way more likely in lacrosse boots. At least that’s what happened to me.
Takes a while to figure the place out as hill birds act 1000x different than swamp turkey that I’m used to.
Hope ya find em tho. If ya figure out where they don’t want to be you’re one step closer to figuring out where they want to be.

Make sure to bring a bug net face mask and enough Victoria secret amber romance that your wife has to question if you actually went hunting
