A new ammunition manufacturing company, based out of Carrolton, Texas Expansion Industries is making plans to expand its business to the Texarkana area.
The plan is to open a manufacturing site inside TexAmericas Center located in Hooks, Texas. The main G line of the former Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant will be used for its operations. The new facility will focus on producing primers, an integral part used in manufacturing ammunition for the small arms industry. The supply and demand are falling short in the industry right now and Expansion Industries is working hard to alleviate that problem with its new facility.
About Expansion Ammunition
Expansion Ammunition started in a garage and has grown into a full a great American company that is rooted in caring and protecting our second amendment. The Texas-based company believes that every American nationwide has the right to keep and bear arms.
I love their motto, "We do what we do because "It's About Freedom."

Maybe they can supply Rio Ammunition right there in Marshall, TX.
Beat bang for your buck shot shells in my opinion. I haven’t seen any Rio steel in 2 years.

I've shot a lot of Rio shells at clays, but I had no idea they were made 30 minutes away in Marshall.
Rio probably won't be buying primers from the new company thought. Rio's sites says "we produce all of our own, brass, primers, hulls, powders, shot and wads. This makes us far less reliant on supply chain issues than our competition."

I had an old blind bag I throw overflow duck hunting stuff in and I found a box of Rio steel 3" I put in a shell belt, a few weeks ago. I have never been so happy to see Rio's. But yeah I haven't seen any in stores in a long time. Used to buy them up all year.

Why didn't they open this plant a little farther south and east in Shreveport? Another opportunity lost.

Because they are using an existing facility in Hooks.

I'm going to start a new ammo company. My options are a small town in east TX or Shreveport, LA. Let me do a deep dive analyzing that.... Ok, small town TX it is. Next decision???
I lived in Shreveport for 7 years, many years ago before it got so bad. Now when our family goes to S'port/Bossier, we very carefully pick where we go. My brother-in-law and his wife who have lived in S'port 40 years are extremely careful where they go in S'port. I quit watching the S'port local news stations a few years ago partly because I got tired hearing about a murder seemingly every day.

My son-in-law told me about the new plant yesterday evening. We spent a few moments scanning some articles about the new business, but didn't see the part about manufacturing primers. I'm excited about that.I hope they'll sell primers to handloaders, but I'd not be surprised if they instead use all their primers to make their own ammo. There's a lot more money to be made selling factory produced ammo to shooters than selling individual components to bandleaders. Nevertheless, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Because they don’t want their primers to be used to kill them or their employees as they try to come and go from work.

It's a facility built in WWII for that purpose.
I think there used to be a very, very, rare at-grade rail crossing on the interstate in that area that served the ammo plant.

These old factories, with rail lines and grandfathered in zoning, are like gold to certain manufacturers.
Hell, the entire defense industry in SW Arkansas (which is huge) is basically made up of old WWII bases and factories that are still in use because of this.

They're about to strike gold and when primers come back every where, they'll have made a mint already.

Idiotically simple-minded. The actual choices would be the east Texas Army ammunition plant or the Army ammunition plants in Camp Minden. Leasing old government ammunition plants are basically the only cost effective option for these small operations, the facilities are already designed for ammunition production with the proper storage and quantity-distance built-in.

Admittedly, my comment was rather "smarty," but anyone who's lived recently in S'port is aware of the declining quality of life there. Simple minded?? I was merely addressing the poster's comment. He said nothing about considering Camp Minden as an option. His comment was about Shreveport, not Camp Minden. Sounds like there's more than one "idiot" here.

ETA: I generally find your posts informative, but this one's not up to your usual standard.
