Balkanizing Atlanta may or not be in the interest of Buckhead itself, but it's definitely not in the interest of the metro area, and that's important.
How do you figure this? The less territory the mega corrupt ATL political machine has influence over the better for everyone. Except for the mega corrupt ATL political machine of course.
Godspeed Buckhead, I wish you all the best in this worthy endeavor and effort to save your community.

I could probably rattle off a dozen Louisiana politicians who I remember going to jail, but I have not observed that in the almost 10 years I've lived in Atlanta. There may be some cronyism and some dubious Donna Brazile-style electioneering going on, but it's pretty insignificant compared to what I remember from LA (a state with millions fewer people than Metro Atlanta).
The one Atlanta area official I remember getting in trouble is the mayor of Stonecrest, a recently incorporated city in DeKalb County. Those people thought they wanted a municipal government, much like some people in Buckhead think they do.
Building fiefdoms surrounded by poverty is how you build St. Louis or Detroit, not Atlanta.
