That year was horrendous.
It lead to significant changes & much better drafting since then so that's biggest positive from that negative.

The key to all of this is ownerships willingness to stroke big checks when called upon.
Also cut Bradley Roby. Draft his replacement.

quote:The thing about it is when you finally decide to feel it, the year after you have so much cap space you can restock the team. And if the year you take the hit you probably get a high draft pick.
2. The "year you feel it" can always be pushed back and the can kicked down the road. I mean one day will we feel it? Maybe, but we'll likely be in a tear down-rebuild situation anyway so it doesn't matter.
Issue is the Saints lost some key role players and their franchise QB. However, we had so much talent, and young talent on this team and a terrific coaching staff, a full rebuild would have been even more ignorant. Kick the can down the road because I believe you have a championship defense window for another year maybe two. Get some pieces and make the run. Then take the dead money hits and rebuild.

Pushing the bill to later years doesn’t “save” you anything.
You are not saving. The only way that happens is getting distanced from the Brees deal. The thing is the cap increases every year. Its like when you get a raise on your job. Your bills don't go away they are still there but you have more free dollars after paying bills to buy something else.
