Seems like we’ve been over this before.
We have two accounts, but they’re both joint accounts.

Yes, been fine for 11 years. We tried a joint account for bills at one point and we sucked at it.

Hell yeah. We were in our late thirties when we got married and both kept our separate accounts. We opened up a joint account that’s used to pay bills.

I’ve never understood couples who do the "my money, her money" thing. Or splitting the bills where they each pay their half. Makes no sense to me and it’s almost like they’re roommates rather than husband and wife.
When married it’s all both of yours, both assets and liabilities. It especially makes no sense in a community property state but I disagree with the concept no matter where they are.

Yes. She has hers and I have mine.
Works perfectly since we both make about the same. We split the expenses…..
We never fight about money.

Absolutely not. We’re not trying to get divorced.

This. Both parties having "their own money" just seems to be preparing for the inevitable divorce so that it can be quick, clean, and easy. Not a great way to share each other’s lives and be partners etc. Just….roommates.

We do. And just split the bills 50/50. It works out well. We have a joint also but easier to individually track things.

Yes. I have a seperate checking account which is for personal use.
We share a joint checking account for bills, grocery, household expense, car insurance, children's various expenses, etc...
She also has a seperate checking account for her personal expenses (shopping, dinners w/ friends, etc...)
We have a joint savings account.
I can spend out of my seperate account freely. She can spend out of her seperate account freely. Alleviates any possible tension of spending on our frivolous items.

All of this.

Not married but will always plan having my own account and a portion of my check going to it. I'd like to surprise her occasionally with a gift or spend a shitload of money on cool stuff like fishing tackle and stuff that goes boom that occasionally gets lost on bumpy boat rides.

Been married for almost twenty years, we have separate checking accts.
She has her bills and I have mine. Now, we are on each other’s accts, and we can transfer funds between the accts on the app.
