Ok so I have a vx3hd 3.5-10 x 40 cds-zl on a Winchester featherweight 7mm 08. Tally lightweight low rings. Been developing loads and got one that groups really well. 140 gr tsx at 2737 fps. It’s hitting a couple inches high and that’s ok except I’m out of downward adjustment. I can’t figure out why. Any suggestions? TIA.

It’s out of travel with the CDS caps off?!

Shim the scope in the rings. I’ve used folded aluminum foil before.

are you turning the CDS dial or the inside dials? If you're truly out of travel adjustments, you can get 20 MOA rails for the rings.

I’ve been turning the cds dial. I loosened the Allen screws and reset the dial at zero. That didn’t change anything. Is it possible that my rings are backwards? There’s barely a height difference between the two but they are different.

You have to zero it with the cap off to get the full amount of travel, the zero stop is getting you. I would bet

Exactly

Once you set it you then tighten the Allen screw on the CDS dial so that zero is locked in

If the bullet holes are hitting the target higher than your crosshairs, you need to adjust the elevation knob UP. The reticle needs to move towards the point of impact. If you have a vice or a solid rest, a rifle can be sighted-in or zero'd in 1-shot.

Well that seemed to do the trick. I took it off and was able to turn it down 10 or twelve clicks then put the cap back on at zero. I assume I will now be able to dial it up if needed next time at the range. Thanks fellas

Yeah should have 12-15moa of travel with it returning to the zero stop.

Never mind it’s already been explained. I have the same scope but 3.5x10x50. Once you get it dialed in it’s money. Bring a rangefinder when you hunt..
