Why is Texas so attractive to both sides?

First let me preface by saying I am being relocated to Texas this year. I have been covering the region for more than 10 years. I have spent months in the state in the major cities and some rural areas.

I am from Georgia and absolutely love the state, the geography etc. the politics suck with this last election but I will leave that at the side.

There is a huge love for Texas and I still haven’t been able to connect with it. Houston is a parking lot. DFW is similarly a hell of highways with nothing worth noting (Katy’s icehouse is awesome). San Antonio I need to investigate more (normally staying on the river walk.). Austin is the liberal shitshow you would expect.

What about Texas makes it so attractive to both the left and the right?

Also tell me where to move since I can control that.

I’m from BR and like it but if I had to move it would probably be central to western Texas. Still room to move and breathe and for some reason I’m a sucker for deserts and plains. Plus Texas hasn’t totally screwed up life just yet.

My first choice. Problem is that I have to get to all parts of the state. Hill country is so central I could have to drive to Dallas, SA, Houston etc would rather live like a king in Brownsville where I would fly.

We could also live like a king and queen in Shreveport since it’s 50 miles from the region

People are leaving shithole places for cities. Texas cities are exploding. They have the geography to expand

And you can get your quaint home in round rock with neighbors you can hear turn off lights. Basically the American dream

You claim you've spent lots of time in Texas yet this is your favorite? You need to get out more.

Normally stay at the stoneleigh when in Dallas. So yeah it’s a good spot.

Would 100% love advice

Liberals actually prefer the outcomes of conservative policies but it goes against their ability to virtue signal to admit it.

Not the only state with this. Plus they get you on your home taxes.

For most blue state residents it's an escape from the BS policies that made said blue states too miserable to live in. For Republicans it's a place where you have leadership and policies that you can support and not have to roll your eyes at every day on the 5 o'clock news.
Problem is the people from Blue States act like bringing their policies over will help make Texas better not realizing why they left the Blue state in the first place.

If you're staying at the Stonleigh I'm assuming you're a Marriott guy. While the Ice House isn't bad, it's nothing special. Used to live in Uptown walking distance to the Ice House and still live close by.

What's important to you when you're in town?

There is a saying on the shirts worn by the workers in the Railhead BBQ in Fort Worth: "Life is too short to live in Dallas". That about sums it up. Fort Worth and Tarrant County are growing, because it is a pro-business environment. Current and last mayors are/have been Republican, but recognize there is value in avoiding extreme politics. Traffic flow is towards Dallas in the am, reverse in the pm. Plan accordingly. We live in Grapevine. Easy access to DFW Airport or Love Field. Schools here have been good. Quality of life great. Job opportunities plenty. I second the votes on the hill country.
