Correction: If they are getting paid, which many of them are now, then they are "pro" athletes.
So they've been pro athletes all along? As long as we have our definitions straight . . .

I think we've seen the best days of college football. They are not on the horizon.

I don't understand this. A company wants to pay a kid because he's a skilled player. How is getting what is basically a sponsorship for playing well contributing to entitlement? I'd want to get something for doing something well, too. That ain't entitlement.
Playing well? Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler (Heisman hopeful played so bad he was upended in the middle of a rivalry game and had to transfer to a second tier SEC school), Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei (face of Dr. Pepper had 9 TDs and 10 INTS), Miami QB D’Eriq King (3 TDs and 4 INTS) and UNC QB Sam Howell (TDs went down, INTs went up and QBR dropped 25 points). All had big deals based on hype and all were bad or awful this year. The belief that they were deserving with failed performances on the field to back that up is entitled. And the next crew is coming right behind them now to do the same thing.

One way contracts that bind the employer (university) but not the athlete, unrestricted free agency, no salary cap.
The professional athlete unions' wet dream.

I agree with you , but I also think this transfer portal thing is also ruining the game and letting players have no loyalty to the college that is giving them a full ride . They are playing today then just opt out next day and go else where . They should go back to transfer if you wish but set out a year .

Tbabino,
Trust me, you are not alone in these feelings. Yes, the climb will be long but maybe not as long as you think. Between the transfer portal and NIL, college football will never be the same. I’ve been a season ticket only 16 years but a Tiger fan/alum a lot longer. I’ll renew my tickets a few more years but if the NIL thing gets to be a bidding war every season, I’ll save money and watch on tv. The real loser will be the university.

It all started with Dim's and kneeling and spread from there, it's dying a quick death, and the one's that were whining are going to find out their money train will dry up because they pissed off the paying customer

I think the Transfer portal would be deeper with good talent, and you have Juco players as well. And once you've been with a team for an entire season as a starter it's less likely that you leave IMO. I also don't see NIL being as big of a factor.

I really want to tell you to get fricked but I think that you are probably right. It’s a difficult drug to kick.

Unless teams are competing for a national title, fan interest will drop dramatically. It will take gambling to save the sport.
The student athlete myth has been totally exposed. These kids will be at the mercy of handlers and sponsors.

Reading comprehension is obviously not your strong suit. His reference to the bowl game was how it may take a long time to rebuild, not his level of fandom.

What % of teams were ever competing for a title? Yet the sport I still Popular

Football is a completely different game than it was 50 years ago. I prefer the game of old, but regs which made it possible for just about any game to be high scoring seemed to be about getting a wider fan base especially from women and cucks

I totally agree!Did not have so many pussy's playing !

First year of NIL, second of the unrestricted portal and you came up with this..
Just watch

Being ruined by A loose transfer portal and no regulations on nil. Will cause much harm to the game and some folks will lose interest. Can you imagine how hard it now is to manage a roster? Can no longer count on players being here for depth. This will also make recruiting much more difficult when you are looking at certain positions. 2019 season might be the last great season.

I still cannot believe there are people that think this paying of players has not always happen going back to the Bear Bryant days. I guess ignorance is bliss.
