Imagine clearly states in the lyrics it a song about imagination and dreaming, in other words....not literal. He's not literally trying to start a revolution to eliminate all nation states, possessions, and religions. It's more of a playful dream about wondering if humans could live without so many of the things that divide us, not saying that we actually can or should attempt to.
