Someone explain to me how this is a good step for him? Augsburg is on the brink of relegation. If they get relegated does he request a transfer? Was this really an upgrade from the MLS? Curious what you experts think.

Good step because he will probably get immediate playing time for a team struggling for goals. If they get relegated he probably continues to get solid playing time in the 2. Bundesliga. The bundesliga is certainly an upgrade from MLS. 2. Bundesliga is closer but probably still better. As long as he gets playing time leading up to the WC that is all I really care about as a USMNT fan.

Yes, thanks for clarifying. I wasn’t comparing Bundesliga to MLS. It was more the second league. I’m sure this will give him better exposure to the bigger clubs. I almost forget at times that he’s only 18.

Listening to the scuffed pod today they discussed the move. Augsburg has three main strikers, one who is 32 (Finnbogason) and mostly a hold up striker, one who is 22 on loan from Brighton who is coming off an injury or something, and another who is a 27 yo 6’4 Austrian guy who has been pretty mediocre every time I’ve seen him play. They’ve each scored 2 goals.

The biggest cause for concern is that Augsburg’s strikers have the second lowest touches per game in the league. So while I think this move has a lot of positives I cringe at the possibility of this ending up like a Jozy at Sunderland situation.

Keeping my fingers crossed that if a club like Augsburg is going to shell out money like they've never done before, they've got plans to make absolutely sure Pepi is getting touches and opportunities.

Maybe him and Vargas who is supposed to be a pretty big talent for Switzerland can do some things

Not that this matters completely, but there's a decent chance that we don't have a striker in an elite league by the time the World Cup rolls around unless West Brom gets promoted.

Btw, hi everyone, I'm a totally new poster that has never been on TD before or made match threads. Can't wait to interact with you all.
