The erroneous concept that man is basically good leads to many errors

Jesus said,” there is none good, no not one. “ In another passage, it says, “man’s heart is desperately wicked, who can know it.” Further it says,” all our righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God.”
Clearly, to God, man is born into the world with a wicked heart and is incapable of being good on his own. Because of it, men fall into various sins like, greed, lust, envy, murder, etc.
But, lots of the world labors under the impression that man is basically good, and on his own, he will mostly choose to do what is right and good.
History shows that this is wrong thinking and leads many to the false position that people in a place of power have our best interest at heart.
Until we understand the concept that man is wicked, and capable of all sorts of evil apart from God, and can’t really be trusted to do good, society will continue to make bad choices about a number of things, based on this misplaced trust in the goodness of man.

Happy New Year!

This is just as foolish as the belief that man is good. Of course men can be good on their own. A bystander rushes into a burning building to rescue someone. That is good.

No one said man can not do acts that are kind or brave. He said that man is born sinful. Only God’s common grace keeps the unsaved from being as depraved as they would otherwise be.

The government doesn't trust anyone either. That's why it's always spying on people. Certain members of the political class pretend that they're the good guys, but they're the worst offenders.

What has happened is we've created a bunch of naive fools with the messaging that is preached in the world today. Look no further than liberal enclaves filled with crime and criminal apologists to see the effects.

The true evil isn't in the common criminal. It's in the leadership that spreads lies.

Although not in the bible... The 7 deadly sins are legit. Our entire species is corrupted with them. It's even worse when we group up and form large societies.

For every one person you find who is trying hard to combat their demons and live a life without sin. You'll see a hundred people who give in and try to tear that one person down.

Man is capable of doing a good deed that is seen as good as man judges good, but I’m talking about the condition of man’s heart.

Rev, I applaud your insight. Judaism also recognizes that mankind , if left to itself, naturally gravitates to the easy choices which are overwhelmingly the wrong path. To do right takes effort, discipline and strength. As a result Judaism became a religion of laws. Laws that outline how to live; with loved ones, with friends, with strangers and ultimately with oneself. Dedication to and recognition of a higher power helps enable one to do so. It is really a religion of learning to live in society in a correct way, which is very hard.
Do we all make it? Hell no, no one is perfect. But it is up to us to keep trying.
It is also about punishment, or at least repercussions, for doing wrong or falling from the path.
Trusting people to do right on their own is folly. History proves this.

I don't think you can use the same exact methods and considerations/factors to assess even just 2 people, much less humanity as a whole. I believe it's a relative matter. For instance, "Thou shalt not kill" is a Commandment, yet we have the military and bombs and war and police and the situations that they're often put in. JMO. No doubt an exceedingly complex matter.

What amazes me is, the same people who wouldn’t let someone like Eric Swalwell watch their kids, have faith that his type will do right by them while making laws as congressmen.

The error or lack of understanding I see is not how bad man is but how Holy God is.

Our concept of God is too small. The reason Hell is forever because it is insufficient in comparison to Gods Glory!

To be righteous you must esteem the most valuable thing in the universe above everything it must be kept most valuable.

When you slight God for anything else it is Cosmic Treason! Because the offended party never dies the wrong never goes away. When Gods Glory is revealed, it will never be belittled again. Will you mock God face to face and Live?

Sadly, the system they created demands it be run by people of high moral character, and the Founders could not even conceive of a public so riddled with immorality. They knew the occasional scoundrel might be elected or appointed, but they also believed the public would demand that the scoundrels be dealt with quickly so as not to poison the rest of the lot.

Woe is us.

Yep, man has engaged in terrible evil. But he has also done a lot great good. Jonas Salk comes to mind. I lost a nephew to polio two weeks before the Salk Vaccine was released. I recall he was only five years old.

The Catholic Calendar of Saints is filled with ordinary people who did extradonary things in the service of their fellow man. I would offer up as an example of that service.....Saint Mother Theresa of Calcutta. I was privileged to be in her presence once. I can say without hesitation, I felt her holiness. Holiness, literally, radiated from her.

Regarding your comment about Jesus statements on the evil of mankind I would suggest you read St.John's Gospel. Maybe start around Chapter 15. There in our Lord's last words during the Last Supper, you can sense the love He has for his Apostles and his love for all of us. I would simply say that God thought enough of creature man He decided to decent from His heavenly throne and live amongst us as an ordinary man in the person of Jesus the Christ. Not only that but He (Yahweh) went so far as to die for us.

So I ask you. If God thought Man was such a hideous creation why did He bother to die for creature man? Clearly Jesus knew this him. To die for you and me. Peter tried to stop Him, and incurred a scathing rebuke from Jesus.

Without a doubt, God Loves us. Better to light one candle, than curse the darkness.

Happy New Year! Remember, we're closer to the establishment of the New Jerusalem than we were last New Year. Rejoice!

Because God still loves us despite our wickedness.

Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

That may be so, but if so God must bestow that grace on some who don’t believe in him, because many agnostics, and even atheists, live saintly lives doing good and giving charity.

And it’s a weird thing to expect sinful and flawed politicians to look out for our best interests
