Could BI be a franchise player?

If it came down to it, could you build a team around BI?
If Zion were to be traded, I’m assuming the Pels would at least get an All-Star caliber player back. Could BI lead a team to the playoffs consistently?

He could. With the right group of players around him. Yes.

He’s got the rare talent. He just needs the confidence to close things out. I don’t see why not. He’s 24.

BI is the only player currently on the Pelicans (active or inactive) who could be a franchise player.

In today's NBA, I'm not even sure you need a "franchise player" to be VERY successful. And I'm not sure how many true "superstars" there are in the NBA at this time...maybe 10...tops?
And superstars are gonna be less & less necessary, as the game continues to become more & more of a 3-pt shooting game...which is where it is definitely headed. Do the Utah Jazz really have a franchise player...much less a true superstar?

Donovan Mitchell is definitely a franchise player. Dude has a serious Aura and natural leadership about him. He’s also a dude in addition to the intangibles, that has dropped 50 plus in multiple playoff games and he’s one of the few players in the league that Jrue Holiday simply can’t guard.

I know that Zion and BI could be the best 1 2 punch in the league bar none

He’s a 1a and I’ve been telling y’all

He could be on a Dame Lillard level. Very good, but not good enough to win much in the playoffs.
He would need another perennial allstar with him to find playoff success. A Klay Thompson like player would be great along side BI.

I assume you think Utah is VERY successful, so I guess you have Mitchell as a franchise player...not sure how his #s justify such high praise but whatever. I actually think Gobert is more valuable to the Jazz than Donovan given their team makeup and playing style...and Gobert would be MUCH harder to replace than Donovan, for the Jazz. Just my opinion, I COULD be wrong.

Remember all of those playoff games where Donovan Mitchell got played off the floor and they had to have Rudy Gobert carry the entire team?

Most people focus on the 'flash' and ignore the 'crash' in a player's game. We've seen that in New Orleans (until recently) whan everyone would 'ooh and ahh' over every monster move that JAX made and turn a blind eye on the rest of his woeful game.

a TD tradition is to describe a player in terms of where in the playoffs the guy tops out.
so. a rotation piece.
a 6th man.
starter on a playoff team.
starter on championship team.
Your question allows for a guy to be the best on his team without considering how he does in wcf vs the golden ones with klay 100%.
i find ingrams emotional state to be wrong for a leader at all no less the wcf mvp.
i say no.
at crunch time he wilts. some other poster suggested sitting ingram 4th qtr.
if you are young look at video of hof champs.
look at rick barry two times champ. i nba. then 1 aba.
bird.
jordan.
ingram never looks like the hunter.

He’s gotta figure out how to be more assertive on offense at the end of games.
He’s figures that out the answer is YES

so you agree. at present ingram is not the mighty hunter.
there are guys who relish the moment.
ingram isnt one of them.
as pressure mounts he staggers 'neath the weight of it.

He could possibly be made into a superstar franchise player. He’d be gone at the first contract after that to NYC or Cali, but we could farm him up down here for a couple years so those guys can enjoy him up there later. Ala Jamal, Baron, CP3, Jrue, AD, and soon enough Zion. BI could be the next great NBA star grown in nola for NYC or Cali to showcase. Our players love to chase fame. We can be proud of the superstars we create for those fame teams.

The Sixers were a lucky rim bounce away from making it to the NBA Finals and likely winning a chip given GS’s injury luck.
That despite Joel Embiid is 1-18 in his career on game-tying/go-ahead FG in the final moments of the 4th quarter and overtime. Second worse in the league over only Kemba Walker.
Steph Curry and Jayson Tatum are hovering around low 30% fg in the clutch this season.
Point being, sometimes people focus way too much on whatever negatives they can find, and in BI’s case, give credit to the fact he is one of the rare players that every year continues to add to his game and not just recognizes his faults, but can and has successfully worked to fix them every year.
That’s why I think people writing off Ingram are fools. He’s 24 and only going to keep getting better
