If all non playoff bowl games are meaningless exhibition games…then why not move them to the beginning of the following year as a preseason exhibition game that does not count against the W/L record. The reward would be the extra practices and tune up game awarded by the success of the previous year. This would cure the bowl game “opt-outs” and give the bowl game some inherent value. The post season would be opened up for a significant playoff expansion
The actual beginning of the season can be shifted accordingly. All teams who make the playoffs would be permitted the same number of extra preseason practices as the other bowl eligible teams and have the option of scheduling a preseason exhibition game as they so choose.

I would like the idea better if you made it where the teams could agree to play the game as part of their spring game.
I don’t think the people that pay for all this would like that at all tho.

It’s hilarious to watch how all of this unfolds and watch the people that still praise these players for opting-out.

Just go to a 24 teams like the FCS and do away with bowls. 48 teams paying meaningful games vs 8 now. Top 8 seeds receive a bye the first week. Many teams paying for a chance at a natty. It seems to work fine for the FCS.
