he never said that, but the school might have to give it a nudge to get it going and organized. Seems Woodward, TAF, and boosters were caught off guard by this and are now playing catch up. Of course the money has to be funneled through NIL so called deals. SEems like a charity or foundation of some sort, in the way Texas set it up, would be a good way to get it going.
Louisiana’s NIL law specifically prohibits what you are talking about, both for the school directly setting anything up, as well as anyone who the NCAA defines as a booster. State NIL laws vary, so some teams don’t have such specific restrictions right now.
I’m sure LSU’s athletic dept and boosters can find loopholes, but they have more of an uphill battle than some other programs. Woody and the boosters with political pull really need to push the state legislature to relax the law and put LSU on a more level playing field.

Unless a co. Simply hands out massive amts of cash with no intention of nil., For their balance sheet.

ANYONE who thinks that an NIL budget is "not a thing" is living in Oz. It is a real thing, talked about openly in the offices of every college football office, and also openly talked about with every high level booster of said high level colleges.

Faggy boosters are being inundated with groups looking to create back pocket LLC’s to filter money to the players. I know guys who’ve promised 10K a year basically blind.

Well then LSU has been screwed by the state legislature.

quote:
Boosters, referred to by the NCAA as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests,” include anyone who has:
Provided a donation in order to obtain season tickets for any sport at the university.
Participated in or has been a member of an organization promoting the university’s athletics programs.
Made financial contributions to the athletic department or to a university booster organization.
Arranged for or provided employment for enrolled student-athletes.
Assisted or has been requested by university staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student athletes or their families.
Been involved otherwise in promoting university athletics.
Once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains that identity forever.
Anyone who has ever had season tickets, joined TAF or even given a one time donation to athletics in any way. Typical legislative bungling. If you look at the bold line, it could be interpreted such that the moment an organization enters into a NIL agreement they would be considered a booster.
BTW, as I understand it, the NCAA does not prohibit boosters from providing NIL contracts, only that there be no condition related to which team they play for or them actually getting playing time.

This is the relevant portion of the law:
- A postsecondary education institution, or an officer or employee of a postsecondary education institution, shall not compensate or cause compensation to be directed to a current or prospective intercollegiate athlete for the athlete’s name, image, or likeness.
- A postsecondary education institution shall not use an athletic booster to, nor shall an athletic booster, directly or indirectly, create or facilitate compensation opportunities for the use of an intercollegiate athlete’s name, image, or likeness as a recruiting inducement or as a means of paying for athletics participation.
We need these two stipulations need to be dialed back significantly.

Rumor was UGA booster had a $800,000 to Travis Hunter. That’s for the best player in the nation. I don’t see other players coming close to that.

I wonder what happens if all these athletes end up in Federal prison for tax evasion

If ur giving kids big money it’s going to ruin a lot of them. The goal is come to school work like an animal to get in the league. Give teenagers 50k, 100k a year they have plenty other things to do.
This cannot turn out well any way shape or form. Many kids coming from poor backgrounds with a bunch of cash b4 player a college game.

No we have 75 players most teams have 85, we’re currently in the 50s for players

I bet the IRS is about to get into the “NIL” game investigating how much these kids are getting and who has paid them. They will want to make sure every dime is given to Uncle Sam. I can imagine some behind the scenes work is being done already.

Doubtful. LSU’s big recruits have been getting paid for years just like other big SEC recruits.

Texas has already been told to shut down two of their slush funds. They freaked out and reacted without thinking after not starting out strong. They may have got themselves in some trouble along with Miami and one other that where blanket paying all players/position groups. How much “A&M” spent is none how much our boosters offered to spend is probably a few mil spread around 10-15 kids. With the very few rules associated with NIL it was very easy for schools with large rich donor bases who are football focused to go all in. That’s what you saw from Bama, A&M. I don’t think Woodward or LSU itself are why y’all didn’t do a lot in the NIL game boosters who would of covered those contracts where paying O’s buyout and Kelly’s new contract and smaller boosters may be a bit turned off on investing into a product with how the last two seasons went and a new unkown coach coming in. LSU has alot of big oil boosters similar to us, I’d imagine you guys are heavy in NIL with Bama and A&M next year without the extra distractions and costs going on.
